Don't believe all versions of Windows work the same Here's one of the first search results from Google, if it doesn't work go on Google yourself type dxdiag and then windows 10 or 8 or 7 whichever you have.

Open DirectX Diagnostic Tool by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button , typing dxdiag in the Search box, and then pressing ENTER
Windows button + R. Type dxdiag in the box. There's an option on one of the tabs to save thew output to a log.
