There are games on Steam (and elsewhere) that have Galaxy-related files in them, too. Whooptie-doo.

OldGrayBeard: Huh... Just for fun I did a search for *steam*.dll in my GOG Games directory.

I got 30 various results!

I guess the most surprising is from "The Witcher 2".

I'm very conflicted about Steam on the best of days.
Honestly, the only reason I have an account is that Bethesda extorted me having to have an account to run "Skyrim"!
Not that I don't use Steam to buy games, but it still annoys the heck out of me that I have to connect to Steam just to play the games! >:-(

The question is: If they're deleted, will GOG replace them when Galaxy is next opened?

I'll post my results after I try a couple of games.
........Damn you are right. My Witcher 2 GOG installation has a steam_api.dll and it's the retail version, with the GOG.com backup installation key.
I am not saying there is a cospiracy going, I am just baffled as to why it is left there. Especially since after deleting the .dll the game runs normally and the api version is outdated.
As you said, still annoying, for someone like me who hates D.R.M., at least.

Worms: Armageddon has a nulled steam_api.dll.

Majesty Gold HD has an editor added recently that has its own steam_api.dll for some reason.

Codename: Panzers Phase One and Two, as well as Wings of Prey have steam_api.dll's in their files.
Removing them does not seem to cause any issues. But if you choose to verify the game files via Galaxy, they will be redownloaded, in case you have deleted them and don't want them in the game files.

I had the impression, since GOG staff is going over the files to remove D.R.M., they would opt to remove any "cancerous" .dll's.
But after all it seems they are non-functional leftovers.
It's just me, hating at even the insinuation of D.R.M., at this point, like I should.

Steam.dll is a type of DLL file associated with Steam developed by Windows Software Developer for the Windows Operating System. The latest known version of Steam.dll is 2.0.0.0, which was produced for Windows.

It's not a conspiracy by Gog or Steam but Windows.Ask them what it's for.

It's related to the Steam client. Steam is developed by Valve, so it's them you have to ask, not microsoft.
Dunno where you get that from, but it's wrong.

What are you on about? off course it is a conspiracy. it has the name "steam" in there, so it is by default bad and horrid and a pox on the world. it is not like if it was called x86cdl.dll or something sensible (but did the exact same thing), which would have been something completely different. I bet, since it is called "steam", it sneakily installs all kinds of DRM on your computer and transfers monies from your bank account to Gabens when you are not looking. My tips is to never ever use online banking if you found this dll in any games, or better yet, never go online again.

Yep,I think you are correct.Trouble is,we have Steam Trains and I was always suspicious of them as they were always hissing.Even the Steam Irons are hissing all the time also so from now on anything that has Steam in it should be eradicated immediately before Trump catches on to the idea and takes over the world like Pinky and The Brain.I'm going out and buying all the tin foil hats and when the panic starts,I'll make a fortune selling them.

Thanks for sharing such informative information and this thread has all. I'm with you as you wrote that Steam is developed by Valve it is true, but it seems like you don't like Valve. If anyone still cannot fix steam.dll then you can by the ease by the step-by-step approach to fix it.
