I also think that they should include the original icons in the game files to preserve them, but I like the icons that GOG creates because they give a sense of uniformity to all games and they are scalable.

However, there is also this problem to which GOG should pay more attention:

Wishbone: I'm assuming many of the old DOS games never actually had an icon.

Grargar: My point is, GOG can't remove something that didn't exist to begin with (icons in DOS versions), as per your thread title. Since the icons belong in Windows versions (which for one reason or another GOG didn't/couldn't bring here), it's not strange that they aren't included here (sure, they could include those icons as extras, but that's a different story).

Green_Hilltop: I thought they might've used the anthology version or later re-leases that came with icons, like my original QfG games did.
But using such wouldn't be using the ORIGINAL icons, which would go against the OP post's premise a bit.

drealmer7: It bothers me immensely too, and I wish they'd put them back. BOGUS when they started doing it/changing them.
