What if it wasn't just Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo?
What if Steam was no longer the leader?
What if there was a GOG Console or a GOG Deck?

I think it would be sustainable.
I think people are tired of DRM.

GOG has proved DRM-Free works.

One of these days this might happen.
But when?
We need to stop supporting DRM.
DRM is like a rental.
One of these days the servers are shut off and we lose everything.

It will fail, publisher will not accept to launch their games without drm so peoples will not buy it, only the gog community may get one and we are not big enough to make it worth it for GOG.

GOG can barely keep their own store afloat, they won't be able to make their own console.

Besides, you can play GOG games on the Steam Deck anyhow. I've been using Manjaro Linux for the last few weeks and I've played most of my GOG games through WINE just fine.

Also most of peoples doesn't care about drm, they just want to play their games no matter how.

It already exists. It's called a PC. =P

DRM sucks but it's powerful on the industry. We can only wait and wait for the game to come to GOG, clean, or something. I got a bunch of games I want but I resist to buy with DRM so joke's on me, I suppose

In that case, make sure you wear your red nose and honk your horn...

Why da heck would anyone want a GOG Deck for?
Is that even a legit question? Seriously asking.

For me, the all point of GOG are the offline installers available through the website, Why even sell unlocked hardware to run such games when plenty of options are on the market, like the GPD Wind, Aya's, Vapor Deck or even a x86 tablet with a gamepad?

Edit: to further clear up my post, you can buy a Vapor Deck and not run the Vapour client on it, that's the whole point of the thing, is not locked, it's a PC not a console.

And who would support it? The "community"?

Not to mention the other issue - many pre cross-platform era Good Old Games designed around a keyboard & mouse are not going to be particularly pleasant to play on any controller-centric device. There's a good reason why all the Steam Deck adverts showcase Control, Tomb Raider, platformers, etc, and not "Play Baldur's Gate and Zork with 2x joysticks!"...

The same is true on some Vapour's services, like remote play. Trying to play a game wich uses mouse to move the camera is pretty much impossible.

However. as someone who uses a tablet to sometimes play games, there are workarounds to the keyboard+mouse problem. In some games (emphasis on "some") touchscreen can be used as mouse input and I assume, some gamepad keys can be mapped as keyboard. Not the best or most elegant solution but probably doable.
That said, can't imagine myself playing any sort of RTS without a good mouse support, but there is the thing, those portable devices can be used in desktop mode too :D

Don't some of the enhanced editions have controller support? I do know they many Inifinite Engine games were ported to the Switch.

The Steam Deck does have a touch-screen, two trackpads, and a gyro, so playing M+KB centered games is actually possible, but it takes quite a bit of setup since you have to remap controls using Steam input.

The steam deck itself will be a failure, let alone if gog makes their own handheld.

GOG can't even keep their website in order. If they made hardware, it would catch on fire or something.

There's no particular reason GOG should make it though. It would be far better coming from a hardware company with no vested interest in pushing one particular store. Even the Steamdeck isn't restricted to just Steam, although I don't want one because
a) I don't want to give Valve any support, and
b) The size is completely ridiculous. The Switch is already a bit too unwieldy and inconvenient for a handheld, the Steamdeck is completely absurd.
I'd rather have something less powerful and more 3DS XL sized.
