When considering Dungeon Keeper spiritual successors I bought War for the Overworld (not on GoG so I got it on Humble) because it was DRM-free optional, map editor (more replay value), and on sale. New content and patches and 'Survival Mode' planned later. Yes, I realize the DRM-free version is the "2nd class citizen" version right now, but that still seemed better than the other options.
Sacrificed Dungeons2 - no map editor or random map generator for replay value and it was more expensive even when it's on sale. Developers confirmed there will never be a map editor or random map generator. No more new patches. Nevertheless, it's still on my GoG wishlist.
Sacrificed Dwelvers - Still in beta stage and I'm not a fan of the giant pig face mother being the Dungeon Heart, but perhaps a mod could change that later. Still I might get it later.
Sacrificed Steam-only DRM Dungeon Keeper spiritual successors.
I would rather get a great game than a good game on sale. I prefer newer games to older games as I know rose-colored nostalgia glasses can be misleading. I hate reviews from people who remember playing a game 10+years ago & haven't played it recently. Currently considering the below multiplayer games I've never played yet & most are on GoG (but in no rush to get any today)...
Hack&Slash = Grim Dawn vs. Van Helsing1 (Van Helsing2 after I do 1)(Wolcen is too alpha & unbalanced to consider now & Gauntlet:Slayer is Steam-only)
RPG = NeverwinterNights2 vs. Divinity:Original Sin (both have far more replay value via multiplayer, community content, mods, map editor) than other similar ones in my wishlist (Icewind Dales, etc)
Real-time Strategy = Warcraft3 (not on GoG) vs Sacrifice vs Impossible Creatures vs Warrior Kings:Battles vs. Majesty2 vs Dungeons2 vs Stronghold Crusader2
Turn-base Strategy = Age of Wonders3 vs Elven Legacy vs Disciples2 vs Chaos (although there is a free new mod for HoMM5 which I own that I may try instead)
Econ Sim with some war = Anno1404 vs. Settlers:Rise An Empire
Shooter = STALKERs vs. Dying Light:Following Enhanced (shooters usually aren't interesting to me, but these seem worth trying)
Adventure = not my thing at all, but if I did try yet again then probably some horror
Platform = Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara (but this is Steam only so I probably wont get it)
