About Cursed Mountain. I should say that I haven't played the game yet, so I wasn't grateful because I found a game that I was loving ATM. My reasons for buying the game were fairly shallow. They basically went like this:
+1 horror game
+1 only a dollar
+2 set in Tibet (!)
+1 warm fuzzy nostalgia as cover art and title
strongly reminded me of the pick-a-path books I loved as a kid
+1 large file size (size doesn't
really matter, but the fact it's not 300 MB suggests a long story)
+1 rated mature
I know nothing of the game and bought it blind. In addition to the points above, I appreciated
Dylan R's review on the Amazon site, including this:
"While not necessarily a revolution in horror gaming, Cursed Mountain has the benefit of being the only horror game I can recall playing that centers around fundamental Buddhism and the culture of small settlements in the mountains of Tibet, providing a whole new, unique premise that the game, quite honestly, does very well in utilizing to its fullest. The atmosphere of the small villages are creepy, yet comforting. The occasional ring of chimes and ceremonial bells in an otherwise abandoned town establish the first section of the game, providing background noise hat sounds authentic to the region. The use of Buddhist gods, prayers, rituals and religious structures add a wealth of culture to the design, making it a slightly educational experience at times for people who don't know much (if anything) about the region's culture."
I have eclectic tastes; because my tastes aren't the slightest bit maintream, I've never once looked at game rating websites like Metacritic or... whomever.
