just kind of a rant from some random guy who never fucking talks

I realized just how much I enjoy DRM free gaming once I was stuck without internet for a week. Thanks weather. I own GTA 5 and RDR2 on Steam, can't help myself, love those games and even the online (I use workarounds and only play solo or coop hehe.) I couldn't even play GTA single player. Rockstar wanted to "authenticate" a copy of the game I fucking paid for online before I could play it offline. LOL WUT? I thought the -gamesforwindowslive- days were gone? Guess in reality people are just comfortable with always online stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love digital, and I love online/internet. But when shit goes bad or things inevitably happen, WHY would I want to be locked out of enjoying media I fucking paid for? It's why I've ripped blu-rays of all my favorite shows/movies, and built an MP3 library. I like enjoying my shit the way I want to and without fucking commercials or needing internet access. Not to mention it's conviniet to just install an old game from a backup drive than to download it again, since the USA loves to charge people overages for data as if that's a fucking thing.

ok ty for reading, take care :P
Well, you wouldn't have much fun with GOG's newest Hitman release, that's for sure.

hehe yep I'm one of the ones complaining about it. I bought it, gave it a fair shot, and refunded once I realized Mastery and Professional difficulty was locked behind logging in. -.-
GFWL was just one of many Microsoft's attempt's to destroy PC gaming, that doesn't mean Rockstar doesn't shit their own Social Club DRM all over it.

It's my fault for thinking that "steam offline" would you know... just fucking work. Since I bought the damn game and just wanted to play single player since my internet cable snapped in 1/2. lol

Nice story.

Yeah, that is one of the reasons I like DRM-free as well, even though I haven't really faced real internet outages at my home (especially as I can always go online also using my mobile internet connection, using my phone as a wifi hotspot)... but there have been cases where there has been e.g. poor internet coverage especially abroad when I've had my gaming laptop with me, or the mobile internet connection I've had there has been too expensive or restricted (e.g. in Thailand I had a one-month prepaid data plan for one month... with a data cap of 9GB. I reached that limit by merely downloading Windows 8 installation media from MS servers, and updates to the installed Windows 8 machine).

And then there is also the whole aspect that I don't want to be dependent on the existence of the store/service from which I bought the game, just to play the game. If my car or vacuum cleaner stopped working just because the store or dealer from which I bought it is no more, I'd be majorly pissed off.

Same with games, I just want to play them, please?

I'd say download Slax instead; 300Mb download and fully funcitonal... Yeah it's not windows 8 but that's a bonus.

Otherwise i think Win7SP1 iso is 3Gb and i'd say much better an option than 8.

Guess it depends on how important your win8 is to you.

I go into everything in this internet age with the "what if I don't have internet" logic. It's also why I rip my blu ray discs as well and have everything that I have purchased digitally and legally stripped of DRM via some program or extension for my personal use. It's also why I have made physical books a top priority in entertainment (mainly comics). It's also why I love old technology more. I have my game boy and it's awesome that I can play it any time I want and all I need are 4 AA batteries. With everything becoming more and more dependant on the internet, it's making a lot of people complacent and indifferent and I find it rather depressing.
yep
way better if you dont need net to install and play the games
This is why I enjoy the fact that some of my favorite games aren't even 6 whole megabytes in size.
