Was fortunate enough to record the whole series of Firefly the other day, seen it a few times but not recently. Its such a shame that it was cancelled, is one of the best sci-fi shows, up there with b5, tng/strek, Farscape. From the intro song, great actors, superb story, and the western feel it all just works. I don't suppose anyone has heard any new news about the show? Any recommendations on something similar? Not seen anything recently that interests me sci-fi.
Defiance?

it is not space opera, though.

Nathan "Reynolds" Fillion?
I liked the show as well.
I think there was a movie named Serenity too.
Irony is I watched both movie and TV show after watching Done the Impossible, a 2006 documentary fan film of the TV series Firefly.
Its main focus is on the fans themselves, how they came to love the show and ultimately, played a part in getting the film Serenity made.

Thanks, will keep an eye out for it - couldn't see it on sky as yet.

Yes, there was a film, it was ok. You would have thought with a film it would give them impetus to do another series, but no.
Supposedly, there are quite a few similarities between Firefly and an anime called Outlaw Star, to the point that a lot of anime fans at the time accused Joss Whedon of plagiarism. I've never seen it, but it might be worth a look if it really is similar.

As for actual trips back to the 'verse... there's some comics, a board game, and an upcoming MMO sort of thing. No new show or film though.

I liked Almost Human, Constantine and Forever too. They got canceled as well. Two of them mid season!!!

Yes, I know. Its getting to the stage where its not worth investing the time to start watching a show as they will just cancel it. Have been recording Killjoys, so might watch that next.

There's an old-ish british show Blake's 7 that also has a rag-tag group of outlaws as the main characters. It's really well written, and the acting and characters are superb, but to enjoy it you need to be able to ignore some of the cheapest old tv special effects and sets you'll ever see in sci-fi. I don't really mind it, so I liked it a lot. It's sort of a grand-daddy of Farscape, Firefly and Andromeda, and a evil twin to the original Star Trek (there is an evil Federation, to future of Earth is bleak and totalitarian).

Wait what it got cancelled? I was waiting for it to end so I could have a marathon!
Please tell me it got a conclusion and didn't end with a huge cliffhanger or something.

But still a cliffhanger I gather.
Damn! Another promising show I probably wont watch then. :(

I seem to remember the same thing being said about Firefly and Cowboy Bebop.
