Eh...I already have it on PSN (haven't gotten around to playing it), so depending on the port I'll probably just skip it.

Still waiting for FFX and X-2 after that Steam Helpdesk leak.
Along with Tactics,IX is the most underrated Final Fantasy game in the séries só I'm glad Square is bringing it over to PC.

dtgreene: One of the issues with this game is that time does not stop during attack animations. This means that a sequence like the following is possible:

1. Enemy casts Shell.
2. Party member uses a summon and gets the long animation.
3. Shell wears off during the animation.
4. The spell hits, with Shell not reducing the damage.

In the meantime, any party member with Auto-Regen equipped just recovered a lot of HP. (The Regen spell might work, but might not last the full animation length.)
Yeah this is one of the game's minor problems. Personally I thought the game was a bit weak after midway through disc 3 or so, too.

bela555: Am I the only one who cant follow which final fantasy is which one?
Since they all have unique stories that follow the same overarching ending against some evil, with varying levels of graphical improvements... yeah it's easy to get confused. But i mentally have mapped a few to specific numbers, usually with characters or events that stick out.

5 - Scrolling chocobo intro sequence one... Never played though.
6 - One of the best. Has Kefka in it :P
7 - Memorable, Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Materia System.. etc.
8 - Sword blades, trains, time travel (sorta), drawing and assigning to stats (junction system).
9 - more QTE-ish as I recall. never got too far in.
10 - Sin, voice acting, smooth PS2 battles. Way too big of a sphere grid.
10-2 - FF for girls, same world as 10 except the entire playable cast is Yuna, Pane, and Rikku
11 - MMO, never played as it's online only. Also only for Xbox?
12 - Active combat and gambits, mist, summons are ships now (that you can't summon). Also has Fran (Viera/ female sexy bunny species)
13 - The hallway... One long long long hallway. Few cool tech things.
13-2 - Less hallway. Branching paths, no sense of time, capture monsters to make them third party member. Multiple endings.
13-3 - beat the game in 13 days, limited monsters, fan service (outfits)
Spirits Within - Movie

Yeah that's probably it.

Chacranajxy: I still don't understand why Square is on GOG, and yet GOG only ever gets the Eidos stuff from them.
GOG doesn't even get all of the Square-West owned properties. No Hitman: Blood Money, Dungeon Siege, or Project Snowblind, not to mention any of the newer stuff. I know Square JP, much like all the major Japanese companies, has major concerns over piracy and thus, DRM-free, but hopefully that'll change in time. All we can do is continue to nudge them in that direction until that time comes.

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that's GOG's job. I think people have had ample opportunity to buy basically every one of those old Eidos games they could possibly want. We've shown our support. The same 20 or 30 games have been on sale ad nauseum, and if I'm not mistaken, the only new thing we've gotten from Square in years is Revenant, which is... kind of shitty. The fact that we got Revenant suggests that the line of communication is still open, so I have no idea what GOG or Square is waiting for.

I only got to play this one on an emulator. Good to know it's finally on PC with the rest.

Play it: It is, by far my favorite in the series. No other game in the series even comes close for me.

The game i lost interest in fairly quickly since i couldn't quite figure it out in a reasonable amount of time and had other games to play or jobs to work...

No, what we all want is The Bouncer.

Emulator... I'm reminded of playing FF9 on an emulator. Last thing i remember is fighting with Zedine against an ice dragon solo (because plot) and i accidentally backed myself into a corner where i couldn't really progress or grind or anything to fight this dragon properly. So i edited a quick save and gave him more hit points for the fight when he was near death. Next time he got hit his hitpoints went from like 12 to 120 again :P

That was a fun hack... Never progressed after that though...

Remains as the only Final Fantasy title released on the first Playstation that I didn't become invested in enough to actually finish. I got to the end of the first disc and just never bothered to continue on.

I really, really wanted more from it. It wasn't the same with Final Fantasy VIII, which I'd later go on to find that more people seemed to absolutely loathe than I did, where I had no real trouble adjusting to all the changes put forth. There was just something about IX that seemed to me like it was attempting too hard to take stylistic steps backward to pander toward people who hadn't liked the previous two installments.

Not to say it was necessarily a bad thing - I was certainly enthused to learn that Amano had contributed character designs early on - but it just didn't feel like a move forward when I initially played it.

Assuming they don't screw up this PC release in some egregious fashion, I'll likely buy it at some point just to eventually go back to it and see if my opinion toward it changes any. I never really considered it a bad game, it was just not an enjoyable Final Fantasy title as far I was concerned.
