We know that many of you expressed disappointment about the lack of the new multiplayer feature in the latest update to No Man's Sky on GOG.COM. While we have limited control over games and content updates, we want you to have the best and risk-free experience possible when you buy a game on GOG.COM.

Although Hello Games chose not to offer refunds over missing game content to our users and instead promised to bring the missing multiplayer content later this year, we understand that some of you might not be willing to wait. For this reason, entirely at GOG's own cost, we’re offering an extended refund policy for all owners of No Man’s Sky. Even if your purchase is no longer covered by the 30-Day Money Back Guarantee, you can contact our customer support team and we’ll issue a refund in wallet funds.

This extended refund policy applies to all owners of No Man's Sky on GOG.COM who request the refund by this Sunday, July 29, 10:00 PM UTC.
Refunded.

I'm disappointed that multiplayer wasn't in the cards here on GoG until "sometime this year."

I do appreciate GOG's goodwill in this.

BTW the refund is a wallet refund, so GoG doesn't lose liquidity over the refunds. GoG keeps my cash and lets me buy something else from the GoG store.

LordIvan: 1. Multiplayer is currently steam and PS4 only, but not on GOG - Which strongly implies that it's NOT using servers and multiplayer tech built and hosted by Hello Games, but instead using valve/steams networking services, and Sony's Play services.
And Xbox- that has full working multiplayer too. I'm not certain, but I believe the servers are Hello Games servers and they simply interface with Steam/PSN/XBL and the servers get divided up based on how many users for each platform.

Then it's more surprising there's no GoG version. Given Sony's history of not allowing crossplay with other platforms, it's even more surprising. Do you have any references for this? (Not saying you're wrong, but verifying facts makes our guesstimates more accurate :) )

Galaxy does work with Steam and has a few crossplay games already, with some tweaking and bigger crossplay with other ecosystems is the dev and systems decision. I could see no MP as Steam uses the friends list.... it looks like Galaxy will need to either use our fiends-list or do some sort of behind the scenes black-magic.

I can't remember the article I was reading, because at the time, I wasn't really all that interested. But it was some sort of dev interview and it sounded like Hello has it's servers, basically just the same as it's done for games such as Fortnite. But of course I may have understood it wrong or misinterpreted, which is why I said I'm not certain.
Of course there's no actual cross play (Sony won't have it- especially on a game they funded!), but they can keep the platforms separate and still use their own servers- again like it's done with Fortnite. Apparently with Fortnite turning cross platform on is pretty much just a flick of the switch...they even "accidentally" did it between Xbox and PS4 once- just to prove it.

SStoj: They're refunding me the cash to PayPal. All it takes is knowing your consumer rights and being prepared to stick up for them (and a little legal precedent set by the ACCC with Valve doesn't hurt either).

LordIvan: Someone offers you a hand, you bite it off at the shoulder, beat them with the bloody stump of their arm, and then proudly proclaim your victory on an online forum while waving said bloody arm like a banner.

It would have been classier to just post saying 'wow, gog were great, it took a bit of effort, but they even refunded me by paypal as required by Australian law. Above and beyond!'

Though it would have made fascinating popcorn watching to see this go to court. The basis of your refund is ' no multiplayer', it would be interesting to see if that would stand up as a 'problem that would have stopped someone buying it had they known.'
Was multiplayer listed on the store page in original release? They alluded to it during the years of product development for sure, but that was not on the store listing, right?

In addition, given that most review raitings are pretty good these days, the product obviously 'works as reasonably expected' by most people. Then there's the question of how would a game fit in the cirteria of 'length of time for which it is reasonable for the product to be used', given that it's two years after your original purchase.

That's not even considering whether you could even call it the same product given that it's been patched 3 times now and barely resembles the original game.

In all seriousness, I wish they hadn't refunded so we could all watch the court case. You could have made history.
This is Australian consumer law mate.
I just got a full refund to my paypal too. Not GOG wallet, because it's useless to me as I don't see anything I want to buy on GOG right now.
The games I'm interested in I already have them on GOG or on Steam. So I would have AU $61.99 stuck on GOG wallet credit forever.

And thank you again GOG.

Very interesting. I could see them using steam to do the hard work of validating the game accounts and the like while their servers run the actual game code. There's hope yet for crossplay - though as Starkrun pointed out, things like joining games using your friends list become a little tricky.

Understood - I actually went and read the relevent information on this out of interest - And there was just enough vagueness there to have made this a very interesting case. It's not completely cut and dry.

GoG - best costumer experience ever!

I won't look for a refund, I am just here to say thank you for your care and the games we all love <3
You should NOT call this a refund but a store credit. BIG DIFFERENCE GUYS!!!

LordIvan: ...snip
Galaxy validates the games per account to allow multiplayer already.. I don't know the full extent but as a programmer I would use that to generate a token to pass to steam as a "hey look I'm good" and then steam would then allow the connection with a valid signed token from Galaxy/GOG.

Galaxy is used as a launcher, frontend and authentication for any and all multiplayer features... and if you think about it its the only way they can give us mulitplayer. GOG is DRMfree and that means many games dont have multiplayer. Galaxy is there work around to allow us choice as a consumer.

that said i think its completely insane for ANYONE to expect multiplayer in any game bought on GOG unless it supported LAN play originally. If anyone does expect it then they do not understand what GOG is about ^_^
This is why GoG is great. Probably taking a bit of a hit on this one to keep us happy.

I'm not going to be taking advantage of this. Bought the game on release knowing I wasn't really interested in multiplayer.

And I STILL remember losing my mind when the preorder / coming soon went up. I had seen a little half page writeup for the game in a magazine in 2013? '14? And fell in love right there, knowing full well I'd probably never get to play it. Surely it was going to be Steam, console or bust. When it showed up on the front page I was filled with glee LOL.

So it was more of "principle buy" for me - to show devs / GoG that Day 1 AAA (I still consider it that) games could release here and be worth it.

I actually haven't played it since the major patches / updates went live. I didn't realize how much crazy stuff the dev has added (FOR FREE) since release until I read the update notes today. I should probably give this on another shot.

I still LOVE the basic concept of being able to go from space to planet and back again. I'll probably buy the next game that purports to do that Day One too ;)
I bought NMS on the 66% off sale last year? Played a few times trying to get into it but just abanonded it with less than 2hrs played. I like the genre but am a stickler for optimization and quality PC/Linux ports. I took advantage of this refund solely to transfer the funds from Hello games to CDPR. I bought extra copies of CDPR games I already own to gift.

It's a silly bias but I've always felt that in the gaming industry I, as a consumer, have to be cut-throat with my wallet. It's the only way they listen.
you, guys, really have balls of steel. Wont buy NMS, since they permabanned me for an innocent joke on steam forum, but added some funds to my gog wallet, even if I didnt plan to do so this month
Edit: Was messaged, disregard.

I've no interest in asking for a refund but well done to GOG for offering it. It's my belief that, in the end, the GOG version will be the one to have in the long run. I'd only ask GOG that the installer versions that don't use Galaxy eventually also contain the NEXT update.
