Evil Islands: Curse of the Lost Soul is my favorite RPG of all time and I am dying to see it here. Sadly very few people have heard of that amazing game and I wanted to open a separate topic to let people know about this game and vote for it in the gog wishlist. I think I am breaking many forum rules by advertising it here but my love to play this game DRM free got the best of me. So here is the review I would like to write if game is published here.

Title: Amazing Crafting System for both gears and spells.

Evil Islands is one of the few games that I like playing again after a few years because of the freedom it gives me while creating my own play style. You play as Zak who wakes up in ruins and doesn’t remember who he is. With his metal (bronze) dagger and unusual clothes the people of the island declares him as the chosen one. So now it is your duty to protect them from dangers. However, not everything is as it seems.

Instead of writing it like pros and cons, I will explain some major details about the game so you can decide on your own.
* Fully Voiced. Some people found Zak’s voice irritating but I found it cute.

* The game is very easy to learn.

* You can only access your inventory while you are on map view. That means you can’t make changes while adventuring since you cant access your inventory or character screen.

* There is no leveling system. You gain health and stamina automatically as you gain experience. Then you distribute these experience points freely on abilities and skills in the map menu.

* You can attack your enemy’s legs, arms, body or head. Hitting head is harder but does 3x damage. If you manage to cripple enemy’s arm then it will attack slower. If you hit it’s leg then it will move slower and it cant run away.

* Back-stabs have never been that powerful. In the beginning, the game forces you to be stealthy and fight in melee. Most monsters are more powerful than you, especially when they gang up on you in numbers so you watch, predict their movements and backstab one of them without provoking others. This is especially powerful when you combine backstab with headshot which does 15x damage in the beginning. Normal backstab does 3x damage but you start the game with backstab ability which makes this 5x. You can further increase this ability to 10X which than backstab headshot would do 30X damage. But be warned, some monsters are immune to backstab.

* Crafting system is easy yet powerful. It lets you create any armor, weapon or spell you want. Of course if you have the ingredients and skill.

* Crafting weapons and armor is simple. All you need to do is place the blueprint and then materials in the shop’s crafting section. It will give you the information of the final object. You can even add a spell into the object while creating it. For this, the spell must have an insert rune and both the energy and complexity must be lower than the final object. This way you can create weapons that weaken enemy or an armor that heals you repeatedly. You can even create wands that does not need a spell created with insert rune.

* Crafting Spells is a little more complex. You need keystones just like you needed blueprints for items. A single keystone is enough to create a spell, you wont need additional materials. But you can enhance the spell by adding runes to it. You can increase its range, duration, effect and target type. Also, you need to be able to cast the spell in order to craft it where highest numbers in your party is taken into consideration.

So this will be my review. It has 453 votes at the moment. I will promote it in my forums and see how much more I can add.

Tnx.

Already wislisted for quite some time. Evil Islands is a great game.
While we are at it, why not also vote for Rage of Mages 1 and 2? They are the predecessors of Evil Islands.

I was never able to finish those two, i remember them as extremely difficult. I would love to revisit them.

Hm, I recently finished playing this game, and I do admit that it is a lovely one. Kinda gets too combat heavy towards the end, and last two islands seemed shorter than the first one, but a lovely game nonetheless.

According to Wikipedia, Nival both developed and published the game, so they might be able to bring it (depending on compatibility issues). Their biz-dev department can be contacted here: http://en.nival.com/contacts/bizdev (I sent a message asking for this and Rage of Mages, though I assume the RoM situation is more complex b/c of diff publishers.)
The game is already available on GamersGate for anyone who is interested, self-published by Nival:

Thank you very much. Should I do the same and send a mail to them?

Interesting. I wonder if the 9.99 price tag is the reason GOG doesn't have it here.

Every voice helps, especially those who are passionate. However, it may still not come here because of numerous reasons, possibly like the one I mentioned above.

I wrote an emotional mail explaining how much i crave the game and would buy it instantly if it was on GOG. I hope that helps.

Nice, but can I ask about this gamers gate site. Is it safe to buy from them, they say this game is drm free - but we know humbles definition is rather skewed on that, so I am wondering if it is a simple.file download with no internet or client needs? I have heard the gamers gate mentioned in other threads in not a very good.light so am always cautious of going near these types of stores.

For whatever reason, once you start downloading a game marked with "DRM-Free", you don't get immediate access to the installer, but only to a small downloader file of about 200 KBs. Run the downloader file and it should start fetching the installer files. Once the full download is complete, then the game's installer will automatically launch. Once this occurs, go to the folder that contains the installer files (which should be a string of numbers found in the folder "GamersGate temporary files") and copy it to someplace else (like a backup drive). Cancel the installation and choose to remove the temporary files, so that they don't take up extra space.

In conclusion, yes, you can get a DRM-Free installer eventually, but the whole process of doing so is a pain in the ass.
