The sets appear to have the same content as the ones that GOG sells, but it says it has extra stuff, like updated launchers and companion apps.

My question is, will we be getting those updates here, or are those going to be exclusive to Steam?
Curious.
Didn't GOG actually hold the publishing rights of these games?

Updated launcher, so you can launch a launcher that launches a game... wooo...

Companion apps... like i don't know, code wheels, or a PDF lookup. Because the earlier games had 'look at page 277 read paragraphs 3,4,7, and 11...'

I'm not sure these will make much difference. Maybe the companion apps are looking for signals or particular text on the screen to bring it up for you automatically, but otherwise i don't see it being anything.
The article says:
"Companion apps for Eye of The Beholder Series (All-Seeing Eye) and the majority of other Gold Box Classics (Gold Box Companion) that manage dungeon mapping for you, provide easier access to journal entries, let you access spellbooks, and much more!"

All-Seeing Eye:

Gold Box Companion:

Wait wait wait, does this mean they're bundling these commercially?

I didn't knew about those ones, looks really useful. Thanks!
So now even GOG is selling a better version of their game on Steam and not back-porting the changes to the GOG version? It'd be fairly consistent behavior with everyone else.
All seeing eye is a free mod, if steam is selling it then I guess they have an agreement with whoever owns the rights to it. Doesn’t make much difference though, you are still better off buying here and downloading ASE separately, then you don’t have the steam launcher and this extra launcher.
SNEG will release the Gold Box Classics via Steam for PC on March 25, 2022
Thrice the charm. Is SNEG a subsidiary of GOG or something? First, they release Pacific and Fantasy General on Steam. Then the two War Wind games. And now, the Goldbox series. And they sell them exactly the same way (War Wind is also free on Steam, and the Goldbox games will be bundled the same way as on GOG). I couldn't really find much info about the company, but from what I could find:

1) They were formed two years ago
2) They are registered in London
3) Two of the people associated with the company are also associated with GOG

From PC Gamer article about it: "The Steam editions are being remastered by SNEG, a small publisher founded by former GOG employees that focuses on remastering and re-releasing old games."

Not much to go by, but whatever the case may be they seem to have a good relationship with GOG.

I guess the extra launcher will be to launch the base game or the game with mod.
But is just guessing, I don't have a clue of what could be, hope it come if it's good, seems that the publisher post it's games here, plus Severance Blade of Darkness is the best Soulsborn.

a game can have different publishers, depending on contracts. they can be publidhers for specific regions (e.g the publisher for a game in the US can be different than the publisher for a game in Japan) or even for different stores (e.g. self publish on gOg and use a publisher for Steam). Quite often, publisher contracts are also time limited, so when it runs out, the contracts may change. so all this depends on the contract gOg has (or had) as a publisher for these games.

As it says on the Steam page (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1882240/Forgotten_Realms_The_Archives__Collection_One/) the publisher there is SNEG

How do you know that? Maybe they are disgruntled ex-employees of GOG.

Gee, well, let's see... Releasing all of their published games on GOG would be a big indicator of that, don't ya think?
Interesting, in that case it'll probably come to GOG as well. I wonder what will be with linux support present currently as this companion apps are windows only. However they work fine in wine so it would be doable with some wine-wrapper but that's probably asking too much.

Maybe while at it they could also update ASE for EotB3 which is very basic and lacking compared to that for EotB1-2.
