I've done a search on this, but couldn't find an answer (my search skills aren't so great).

Does anyone know if the retail PC DVD version of The Witcher 3, comes with a free GOG.com backup?

Reason I ask, is my PC doesn't have a DVD drive, but I have some Amazon vouchers available which would cover the cost of the DVD version...

It's likely that it will, but as of yet no official announcement has been made.

When this was originally asked when the game was released for preorder, Gog indicated no backup on launch. But also indicated they would not rule it out for sometimes in the future.

Regards
Well, if you don't have a DVD drive, why are you getting the DVD version? I don't see the logic in this kind of reasoning :-P

Anyway, I rather would like they put the game on a single focking BLU-RAY instead of your usual 5 DVD setup already :-P

EDIT: Oh, never mind, I read the post again. I'm half an idiot, indeed.

GOG has now a excellent restore function with can easily restore your previously installed and updated games.
Before reinstalling the System or GOG Galaxy simply copy the folder where you have all your GAMES and paste it somewhere safe. Once you have completed your re installation start the new GOG Galaxy to see if it works. Exit GOG Galaxy. Copy or move your backed up games folder back to your desired location.

Start the GOG Galaxy again. Go to library, choose the game you wish to restore Click the MORE button go to Manage and Import folder. Choose the game directory and let it do its thing.

To restore Witcher 3, 32 gig including updates it only took 250 MB of internet tragic.

Thank you GOG, we love you.

P.S. As far as I am aware GOG doesn't have could save function. So make sure you will back up your saves properly when you are backing up the game as well.
Given that these days patches are distributed to people who own the game on digital distribution services rather than being publicly available I would imagine a disk version would come with a code for a digital version, and I expect that CD Project would be using GOG codes rather than Steam codes.

A quick check of the Q&As on the Amazon.co.uk page confirms a GOG code is included.
