I was wondering which versions of the Final Fantasy series each of you would like to see on GOG.com.

Here's are my picks for the games I would like to see released.

Final Fantasy I & II - Remastered (Dawn of Souls)
Final Fantasy III - 3D Remake (Since this is the only available version)
Final Fantasy IV - Remastered version (non-3D)
Final Fantasy V - Remastered version
Final Fantasy VI - Remastered version
Final Fantasy VII - With original hand-drawn backgrounds & HD video
Final Fantasy VIII - With original hand-drawn backgrounds & HD video
Final Fantasy IX - With original hand-drawn backgrounds & HD video
Final Fantasy X - XV - HD versions of the remaining games.

Bigs: Keep dreaming
I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of possibility. Well ... maybe the hand-drawn backgrounds are a bit of a stretch, but the rest of the games might stand a chance of being released ... perhaps... someday.
I think it's more a point that Squeenix Japan will never release them DRM free...

I think lightning returns had some online requirement originally they said it was because of steam cloud.. but that's just nonsense. They did fix that but still I don't think square with FF games is coming soon near your gog.

They just re-release those with minimal effort like capcom mostly has been doing with resident evil.

Once they release all of their old games on Steam we might stand a chance of getting the first nine games released on GOG. We might have to wait a year or two before it happens, but they would be foolish to pass on more easy sales.

I think it would be even more likely if they did some management changes over at Squeenix.

Not a case of "can't" but "won't"

Indeed.

edit: if they would actually do more than port some crappy phone versions, sales would be bigger I would think. i mean who wants to play a phone port in their expensive pc even if they would love to play decent fantasy. Well FF IX in pc I guess it's a good thing but many has played it on ps1, it was good back then (not my favourite), nowadays nobody will be impressed, not even those who possess awesome amount of nostalgy.

They could have done a lot more with their remastered versions, especially the 3D version of Final Fantasy III.

Well US 3 or that VI? I mean I do like that game but I mean when I looked at those I rather play a snes version again.

Edit: I mean that series deserved more than fucking phone ports.

All of them :D
Here are my preferences:
1: Origins (PSX). The later versions made some changes that made the games too easy and less faithful to the original.
2: GBA or later. Those versions fixed some of the issues with earlier versions and didn't feel too easy. Incidentally, I consider Origins to be the worst version because of some changes that weren't for the better (notably, magic levels up more slowly than in the original Famicom version). Alternatively, an entirely new version that takes mechanics from later SaGa games and rebalances the entire game would be appreciated.
3: Both Famicom and 3D versions would be good. They have enough differences that it would be worth having both.
4: Both DS and PSP versions, as they are again, quite different. Also, to make the Complete version more complete, I would add: a. an 8-bit music option, which uses the music from the WonderSwan Color version of the game. b. An EasyType option, which gives you FF4 EasyType (not the same as US FF2!) with the Complete version graphics. The English text would be based off FF2 US, with exceptions for items not found in that version but found in EasyType (like the Piglet Sword).
5: GBA version, but with the Power Drink bug fixed. Don't touch the game otherwise.
6: GBA version, but make the Merit Award equippable by Gau and Gogo. (Make sure that the Evade bug from earlier versions is not present.)
7: Needs cutscene skip and shorter summon animations. Also needs a harder difficulty setting. (This can apply to the games after 7, for that matter.)
9: See 7, but also reduce load times and an option to remove the camera panning at the start of battle. Also, an option to stop time during animations (FF6 could also use this).

And Squeenix London has gone apathetic here as well. :-P We don't have Tomb Raider Legend and that'll be 10 years old come April 5.

But hey, there's always suicide. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It's Square Enix Japan. Even on Steam they're putting up heavy region lock. What makes you think they'd release it DRM free in the first place?

Hoping for something is alright, but this is like daydreaming the impossible....
