UPDATE: Heads up! There are 24h left, so now is the time to take advantage of the amazing deals and upgrade your collections. Eyes on the price, Boo, eyes on the price!

Years ago, the Baldur's Gate series changed the way we look at gaming and the scope of what was considered possible. Even now, the legacy continues through the Enhanced Editions – thanks to the hard work and years of updates to keep the inimitable Infinity Engine living on.

It's the work on the Enhanced Editions that made Siege of Dragonspear possible – the just-released, massive expansion to the timeless classic, available only for Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

"The team at Beamdog was able to breathe a new life into the Infinity Engine classics." says Greg Tito, Communications Director for Dungeons & Dragons "We're proud to recognize their excellent work in offering the best possible experience and support for these legendary titles. We want these to become the definitive editions – featuring both the enhanced and classic versions of the games."

On April 29, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will be expanded to include the classic versions – each becoming the Definitive Edition Bundle and not available for purchase separately. If you already own the classics on GOG.com, the games currently on your shelf won't be affected.

"We're excited to take our commitment and support to Baldur's Gate and GOG fans to the next level and humbled to work with such great partners. The Definitive Edition Bundle will give every Baldur's Gate fan what they're looking for" – concludes Cameron Tofer, Beamdog COO.

In the near future, we're also looking forward to full GOG Galaxy support for achievements in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition – as well as in the Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear expansion.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be 75% off until April 4 11:59 PM PDT / April 5 2:59 AM EDT/ 7:59 BST and 60% off until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 60% discount for Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST. The 85% discount for owners of the original saga will last until April 29 10:59 AM PDT / 1:59 PM EDT / 18:59 BST.

i have the enhanced version on steam and i was not happy with it since back then , tons of bugs and issues almost every patch broke something so was looking forward to having the originals which are only on gog here sometime in the future
Nice! I had ignored these titles in the past as I heard they are not as good as the originals. However, with the new DLC releasing, I literally just wishlisted them all yesterday. And now I happily pick them up at a cool 85% off, thanks you GOG and Beamdog!

I, for one, think this is a very good decision, which should have been done long time ago :)
I applaud you, although I know many people will be bickering now, because they bought the EE editions at much higher price.

I did too - and I don´t care.

Enjoy, all of you who haven´t bought them yet.

So if i bought the enhanced editions today while they are on sale when it hits April 29 will it give me the original games or is it that they are being removed from the store? It looks like it was implying they would start being bundled together.
whats the difference between this and the original versions?
I guess the "Definitive Edition" stuff makes sense from a business perspective (I'm sure there's something confusing about having 3 of the infinity engine games listed twice), but I can't help but wonder if this move has more to do with a lot of the "Enhancements" in the BG EEs being redundant if you mod the original games to have stuff like widescreen support and bringing Baldur's Gate 1 into the BG2 version of the engine. Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition at least has the BG2 class kits, which is something that has not been modded into the original as far as I know.

I own the originals and EEs regardless, but that announcement struck me as weird and slightly disconcerting.
high rated
It turns out that I'll buy anything at 85% off. Anything.
I've had the originals since gog released them, and had the EE versions wishlisted. Decided to pick them up with the discount. The spending spree is rough this weekend, between these (fortunately 85% off), Don't Starve Shipwrecked, and the XCOM games (which I haven't picked up just yet, but my I'll break before the weekend ends given the discount).

Is it true that the EE also miss the original FMV cutscene sequences? O_o

hummer010: [...] I can imagine that there will be people buying the expansion without owning the enhanced edition and being surprised that they can't play it.
Most DLC sold on GOG don't allow someone to purchase them without owning the base game (and possibly other required DLC) first; I'd imagine it's the same in this case. However, someone certainly might buy the old version of BG and only realize later that he bought the wrong version to be able to play the new expansion, so this bundling will eliminate that possibility.
avatar
park_84: BTW, does anyone know if Icewind Dale II or any other of the D&D games will also be remastered?
I read some interview with someone from Beamdog around the time Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition came out, and he said it was unlikely that either of the other two Infinity Engine games (Torment and Icewind II) were going to get the EE treatment due to how heavily-modified those games' versions of the engine were. He did say that a Baldur's Gate III was a possibility, though.

avatar
eiii: Is there any way to still get the older version of BG1 EE? If I remember correctly GOG already had done that for another game.
Contact Support. They've been known to make removed, older versions of owned games available upon request in some cases in the past.

desic: I have to say though, that I agree with the majority in saying that bundling the classic and the Enhanced Editions as one is a mistake. In my opinion, leaving the products separated provides more options for the clients and leaves GOG more transparent. It almost feels like you are manoeuvring the clients into a more expensive option.

You should reconsider this decision and perhaps offer a solution similar to what you are offering with Wasteland / Wasteland 2 where the classics will be automatically bundled with the Enhanced Edition, but the option to buy only the classic versions remains.

I remember when you guys announced Baldur's Gate and stated that you guys had reached what was probably your biggest goal ever in GOG. It seems sad to see you guys give up on that dream.
It wasn't GOG's decision to make. Take it up with Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast and Beamdog.

You can still buy the old versions here until the 29th of this month, you know.

That seems to be what they mean, yes.

Yes, just before the end of April.
avatar
Tcurt99: [...] It looks like it was implying they would start being bundled together.
No, it is explicitly stating that they will be bundled together. :) So, any current or future owners of any of the Enhanced Editions will, after the 29th of this month, also own a copy of the original "complete" edition of same.

Emachine9643: whats the difference between this and the original versions?
The Enhanced Editions feature many new quests and characters, all from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
