Hi,

Was playing Van Helsing earlier on and the first time I started it Norton popped up saying it found unusual network activity form the application, and I blocked it then. Same thing happened with Van Helsing a while back when I played it. Now normally the wifi device is disconnected from the machine whenever I am not using it, however I do sometimes forget and these were two of those times. So my question is what were they trying to do? And do any other games start attempting to connect to the net without permission on here? Its really not good.

Not sure how the GOG version of van Helsing does it but maybe you were just hosting a multiplayer lobby without knowing?

Well, I just did the standard install, and then ran the shortcut provided. There were no options or indication that something was to happen, just the cover image appeared and then Norton jumped in.

Ah, it was probably just trying to access the game servers for the multiplayer. Of course I can't be 100% sure. ;P

My guess as well. I know I left my desktop online once or twice and launched Xenonauts and it has a call to external servers in order to display "New Information" RSS feeds, Community Downloads etc etc etc. So while I can't speak to Van Helsing (yet! - I'll be firing it up later this week! ;) ) I bet it's something similar, especially because the game does have integrated multiplayer.
