Show off your (old) gear, win shiny new (ROCCAT) gear!

As you know, the GOG.com catalog spans many titles dating back as far as 1980 (, we're looking at you!), in times when computers kind of looked like modern-day [url=http://prepare.icttrends.com/images/2012/06/IBM_PC.jpg]microwaves sat on top of a console, and the first portable computer, the Osborne I, was put on the market in all the glory of its 24 pounds of weight and a steep $1,795 price tag.

We don't expect you to have gear that's quite as old, but we are curious as to what treasures you might be keeping in a box stored away in the basement or deep in an attic drawer. So show us your oldest gear and be greatly rewarded with the some of the newest on the market, courtesy of gaming gear creator and producer ROCCAT!

THE RULES:

- Your entry should consist of 1 or 2 pictures of your old gear and a description of up to 100 words telling us what it is, where you got it, what you used it for or any other fond memories you have with it. Maybe it was your first joystick? Maybe an old Atari controller you kept as a memento? We want to hear about it!
- You can only post one entry per person. If you post more, only the first one will be counted.
- You may not edit your post.
- Use your own photos of your own gear - we do know how to do a reverse image search!

Post your entry in the comments below before the deadline - you have a week, until March 6th, at 1:59 PM GMT. We aim to judge your entries and pick winners by Thursday, March 12th - we'll announce them in the contest forum thread and via PM to the winners themselves.

THE PRIZES:

1st place prize: a ROCCAT Isku, gaming keyboard with blue-tinted illumination, secondary programmable Shift function, and Thumbster Macro Keys below the spacebar to maximise gaming effectiveness

2nd place prize: a ROCCAT Savu, mid-size hybrid gaming mouse with an adjustable, 400-4000 DPI optical sensor, secondary programmable function, customizable illumination, and a powerful driver suite

3rd place prize: a ROCCAT Sense, mousepad with friction-reducing microcrystalline coating for greater mouse speed and precision

All winners will also get GOG.com gift codes to use on games of their choice to test out their new gear!

Honorable mentions: We expect there to be many great-quality entries, so we're reserving the right to give out honorable mentions to all those we find did a brilliant job, but didn't quite make the podium cut. They'll get GOG.com gift codes to use on titles available in our catalog.

Should you be one of our top three winners, we will need some mailing data (name, address, phone number) to ship your prize to you. If the ROCCAT Marketing Team ends up sending the prizes directly to you, we will need to share your mailing information with them. We will not share it with anyone that doesn't need it!

Please note that this contest is also being held on the French and German GOG.com forum - winners will be chosen, regardless of language, from across all three contest topics. :)
My Psion 5. Used it to play Infocom games more than anything when not at home. Had an Amstrad 6128 before that. This still works but these days the display does not cope well with reflections and of course the connectivity is lacking.

But I can still get eaten by a grue :)

HereForTheBeer: Oh, and the Logic Processor on the second core has never really worked correctly.
avatar
mistermumbles: I wonder what she has to say about that. =P

+1 for making me laugh in such a creative way
The original Logic Processor functions fine, and it calculated that I should not show this thread to the owner of the other Processor. Something about damage to the gold interconnects.
This contest was excellent! ^_^

I just want to say thanks to everyone for showing off so many cool retro devices!

My old gear is an "Apple II". Some of my earliest memories are playing games on it as a toddler. When we got an IBM, the old Apple fell to the wayside. It wasn't until last year when I dug it out of the basement that I discovered... it's not even an authentic one! O_o It's like that feeling you got as a kid when you found out Santa Clause wasn't real. Oh well, it still works, and it's so much fun going back to play those good old games!

My contest entry:

I always loved handheld consoles. I bought quite a few of them over the years, yet I always felt my collection was missing something. Some time ago I searched the Internet and found my Holy Grail:

behold the 1st ever handheld console - MB Microvision in perfect working condition (picture_1). I bought it cheap with broken sound and repaired.

The second picture is my Genius GM-6 mouse my parents bought me with my 1st PC in 1989 (produced 1987) and can be seen in its original box, with User Manual and driver on a 5.25 floppy.

Just in case: picture1: , picture 2: [url=]http://i.imgur.com/zAu95g6.jpg

Pic 1: My old PC, with a Matrox Mystique, AudioPCI, and Pentium 2 300MHz. I got the parts from eBay and assembled them to create this (not so) beastly machine. I use it to play many old games.

Pic 2: All of my other old stuff. The consoles, I just got from Amazon, mostly (the PS1 was a $5 Goodwill find) But the Colecovision, I got that for free from some old ladies who were giving it away. Cleaned it up, made $300 from some rare games it had, and overall, it's a really nice console.

Thanks for the contest, guys!

I have a Logitech mouse M100.I bought this while i was doing my compulsory military service, cause in Greece everyone has to do this for 9 months, and because i was in the computer department i wanted a mouse and i didn't want to spend a lot so i went to store and bought this around 10 euro and it still works fine.

The keyboard is a Microsoft comfort curve 3000 and this one was bought by my sister. She had her keyboard died so she needed a new and cheap one and got this, and i am using this for the last years since she got a laptop.I really would love an upgrade since i cannot afford it.

Hehe, my gear isn't that old, but it has a special story. When I was a kid, I used to collect everything I found. One day I found a memory stick. It's storage room was 256 MB I didn't know what it was because we didn't have a computer at my home. So I used it as a regular toy. Threw it, pretended that it was a toy car and lots more. Once I even tried to eat an apple with it, but it got stuck in the USB thingy and I never tried eating with it again.

My entry:

This is my airplane gaming mouse; it only has 2 buttons, it’s a roller ball bottom and has a non-usb entry cable.

I got at it as a souvenir from my sister who went to Indonesia for a while because of her job. I used it to play all sorts of games where you fly stuff, like Wing Commander, Descent, etc. The lack of a third button, the slow motion of the ball bottom and the clunky wings limited the experience a bit, but I loved every minute of it. I don’t use it anymore because of the cable.

Quick question: does it HAVE to have a personal photo tied to it? I ask because I had to ask my dad to take a picture but he's far from tech savvie, besides I just learned that the stuff was upstairs, and I don't really want him to break his neck over this... :P

xtense: I was having some trouble deciding since I own so much old stuff, but between an Atari 2600, an IBM XT PC, an oldschool „brick” GameBoy and a complete C64 system, I’ve chosen the Commodore. My dad used to run the computer lab in our local... well, youth center I guess („Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury”), where I had access to tons of sweet gear. All of the gear slowly dripped down to me as they got outdated, among them many ZX-Spectrums, an MSX, and this beauty here. It still works, too and has the best SID chip model inside: 6581.
My First computers was a C64 complete with external Floppy. I saved up for the tape player. What a crazy time that was to be a computer geek. I loved it. Well done and never ever get rid of that!! =)
This is my Nintendo Donkey Kong Jnr Game and Watch made in 1982 it’s 33 years old this year and was my first ever console game. It still works and is one of only 250,000 units made under Model Number DJ-101. My Dad bought me this as a Christmas present, Mum normally does the shopping so it was a special gift for me. Dad mistakenly let me play it before Christmas so I spent weeks looking for it. This was a great Christmas from my past, and I’m proud to say gaming is still one of my greatest passions.
