I found out about this project just today when I saw it on Steam. According to the campaign page which can be found here, GOG is one of the targeted distribution stores.

I've played this game for hours on end when I was a kid, would love to have it back :-)

It seems more than a year old. Was there any update?

That would be really cool. I'm looking forward to GOG selling all the other Keen games too, which seems likely to happen soon given the deal with Bethesda.

I never really got into the Keen games beyond the third episode, when the engine changed. Somehow it always failed to grab me.

A commander keen re-imaging is long overdue though. The last game with a vaguely similar feel was Heart of Darkness, but that didn't have the big open and interesting levels of the Keen series. Perhaps something grittier and more intense than the original Keen games is in order, in line with some of the artwork out there:
