richlind33: The people who claim that there are *no* problems with respect to gender fluidity are almost as ignorant and/or dishonest as the people who demonize it. Both camps are populated with intolerant extremists that have worn out their welcome.

"Gender" and "sex" can be synonymous, depending on usage, which raises issues that need to be addressed by people who are capable of and willing to engage in reasoned discussion aimed at finding practical solutions. People from either of the above mentioned camps NEED NOT APPLY.
avatar
Darvond: The only issue that needs to be raised is a copy of the Oxford dictionary, so people quit using words in invalid contexts. :B Lightly whack them on the head; that or English needs to seriously evolve its pronoun game; many languages have androgynous descriptors out the wazoo,
It goes beyond pronoun inadequacy, because genitalia are considerably less fluid than gender identity is. It becomes a moot issue *after* sexual reassignment surgery, but otherwise presents serious complexity re the use of public restrooms, for example.

Darvond: If a man wants to wear a dress, be called Susan, and color his hair green, what am I to stop him? Biologically, he's still a guy but that won't stop himself. And why should anyone? There's no harm in it.
And yet, you still use him pronoun. ;)
So... OP gets all riled up because of characters becoming more customizable... in a f**king Cyberpunk game!

Choose a very manly body type and a deep, very manly voice if everything else makes you feel very insecure about your sexuality, OP. It’s not like you don’t have the option of being a very manly man anymore.

You just have more options now. Including the very manly option... for manly men who have to be very manly or they would otherwise get all angry and outraged about the libruls ’n gender ’n stuff.

And just fyi, on top of all gender related stuff, read the Wikipedia articles about intersex and chromosomal variability. There aren’t only XX and XY people walking this earth. I know, it’s complicated. But it exists. And it exists more often than you think.

Why would any of give a shit if you're not buying game over such a non-issue?

Your loss, your life so why clog up the forums with this attention seeking nonsense.

tinyE: Lola is about a transvestite, not a transgender.

Prejudice against either one is equally as repugnant.
Oh I see. So it like a comedy thing?
I think some people in this topic should spend a moment to read George Effinger's When Gravity Fails. It might give them some perspective on transgenderism in cyberpunk.

re: pandering

It's not pandering, you galaxy brains.
Actually it is and it's being done to sell the game to such people. Do you honestly think they just chose to make it not male/female and based on body type/voice out of the blue or to be nice?

Less than 2% is not a whole lot, though.

That's where you have all the music and turn-based strategy games, there is no better place to drink.

The interview quoted claimed it was to follow the themes of cyberpunk.

But please, please, please, I beg all those who feel it is 'pandering to people who don't even play games' to boycott the hell out of this game. Organise! Vote with your wallets! Show the man! etc. Please.

So that when the game sells a bajillion copies, we can put that myth to rest (again), and those dinosaurs can hopefully finally realise they're in the minority, and crawl back under their rock.

1st bit- Without proof that is just a claim and could be made to save face and hide the acrual reason just as likely as it could be the truth.

2nd bit- By pandering I meant pandering to those of us in the LGBT community and also those who support us/those who are more PC leaning, of course.

(And likely also to get good reviews from some review sites)

I also don't believe in boycotting over such small issues so i'm not one of them and won't be doing so.

3rd bit- What dinosaurs? The perpetually outraged at words or the perpetually outraged at others getting upset over words?

GameRager: Sounds good.....just make sure you don't make any sudden movements or you might rip the needle free of yer arm(I did that once in hospital IRL...twas not pleasant).
avatar
Lord_Kane: So did I, while prepping for a CT, I slipped and the IV with the dye ripped out.
Not. Fun.
I also once had an IV drip going with meds in hospital and I had to use the toilet. They couldn't take it out of my arm at the time(and likely didn't want to have to reset it after) so I had to carefully go without ripping it free...twas also very nerve wracking.

(Also enough talk about that in case we derail with talk of hospitals and IVs. :D)

Lord_Kane: Yeah how dare we derail a shit thread with actual discussion. painful I know.
Tbf the OP was wrong and overblowing the whole thing but the talk around it was still somewhat ok(barring the silly and bad posts). I also try to respect most people's threads whenever possible.

But yeah, the thread has run it's course(OP proven wrong and info posted), so I guess it's ok to some extent.

Yeah, like its cyberpunk and being weird gendered goes with the genre. so I dont see anything "woke" about it.

To me I see it as "woke" a bit due to trying to do so likely done to sell more copies to LGBT and others. To me that counts a bit.

eh, I doubt that, if you look at the pen and paper rpg its based off of, there almost literal brains in android bodies of any gender, so its "wokeness" is doubtful.
