I'm looking for some nice music to play in the background while I do my work. As such, I thought it would be a good idea to turn to the GOG community for some musical recommendations.

Let's get a thread going for links to atmospheric, ambient, and other similar genres of music. It doesn't really matter if its from a game, movie, or official recording artist. There's no need for such trivial distinctions here! :D

I'll start things off by posting this: the soundtrack to the SNES RPG Alcahest. The opening tune is really quite good and possesses a very relaxing quality. Give it a listen!
I like to work to anything Pink Floyd prior to The Wall.

Also Disc #1 of Aphrodite's Child '666' is pretty nice. Disc #2 is waaaaaay too experimental so I'd skip that.
Lauge & Baba Gnohm - Daybreak
I think Hammock fits this nicely :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UlTJR9FY8Y
Anything from Cryo Chamber label is worth a look http://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/

(and preceeding that, Cold Meat Industry - though I think thats now defunct)

Have you ever played Ragnarok Online? There are tons of different music genres on it and all are instrumental so they are perfect for ambient/atmospheric music.

I can't recommend the Kairo: Arranged Soundtrack enough.

There's also a lot of ambient work put out by Brian Grainger aka (aka the guy who did the music for Eufloria), such as [url=https://milieumusic.bandcamp.com/album/beyond-the-stars-lies-the-sea]this. A fair word of warning though, he's got a mountain of music available (and even more under his aliases but the styles vary with each).
I love the soundtack for <span class="bold">Code 46</span>.

I love the movie too, by the way.
I sometimes try working to the themes of westerns, which is definitely atmospheric, but sometimes a bit too distracting due to the awesomeness of several themes, eg:
High Plains Drifter
A Fistful of Dollars

Another favorite is Howard Shore's soundtrack for the LotR trilogy, eg:
A Journey in the Dark
The Grey Havens
though there are several songs corresponding with action sequences in the film which I usually just skip

You can also put together a playlist of some incredibly music from, or inspired by disney films:
Lion King - Lea Halalela
Atlantis - Crystal Chamber
Sinbad - Sinbad Returns

There is such variety in film soundtracks, you can pretty much put together any kind of playlist you want. Here are several diverse ones I like to work with sometimes:
Blade Runner - Blade Runner Blues
Dune - Prophecy
Matrix - Clubbed to Death
Dragon Heart - Finale
Band of Brothers theme <-- a series yes, but of high budget film quality

Lastly, and this might be a bit of a weird choice, but it often works for me when I'm trying to get things done. It absolutely oozes atmosphere and definitely qualifies as ambient:
Fallout 1 and 2 soundtrack
Mark Morgan's music shoud be your pick...Fallout 1 & 2, Planscape Torment, Wasteland 1 (new edition has music) and Wasteland 2

Hate to be tacky but check out my music, specifically A Beginning. It's atmospheric soundscapes with a focus on being calm and easy to relax and mellow out to. pressler.bandcamp.com

If you want a download code just let me know!

You forgot Giants: Citizen Kabuto in your list ;)
Half the soundtrack is by Jeremy Soule, and the other half by our beloved Mark Morgan!

Should we be taking music advice from someone who's avatar is "Smell the Glove"? :P

After seeing the thread title, I came in here with the intention to post a recommendation for their stuff. Perfect for pen & paper RPG sessions (Cthulhu, Dark Sci-Fi etc.)
