Our Winter Sale is still up and running and today it’s treating you with yet another GIVEAWAY and the release of Dustborn!

For the next 72 hours feel free to claim your copy of The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav

It’s a classic point-and-click adventure that takes you deep into the world of Aventuria, where you’ll take on the role of young Geron and get caught up in a mysterious plot that threatens to wipe out the kingdom of Andergast, a back-water realm in the northwest of Aventuria.

And when it comes to Dustborn

It’s a single-player, story-driven action-adventure game about hope, love, friendships, robots…and the power of words. You play Pax: exile, con-artist, Anomal — with the ability to weaponize language. Looking for a new life and a way out, Pax has been hired to transport an important package from Pacifica to Nova Scotia, across the Justice-controlled American Republic. Sounds like a legit reason for a road trip, right?

Check out all this Winter Sale goodness now!

Vainamoinen: Another fine example of how GOG should never allow reviews and ratings by people who don't own the game.
They already list BOTH SCORES (win-win) side by side, the only thing gog may lack is ability to filter reviews to only owners/non-owners, and I didn't see anyone here even asking for that, people go straight to asking to silence the reviews thus not even hiding their true color. I fail to see any legit reason to silence reviews here except for political ones. Both scores is one of the few advantages gog has over steam and it would be very shortsighted to throw it away only to virtue signal on an already failed product.

You can filter the reviews to show "verified owners" only. It's what I've done to cut out a lot of those unhelpful reviews.

You're right, thank you. Gog already has everything covered then

I don't get the cry for banning non-owner reviews when it's plainly obvious that people can own the game outside of GOG, especially with many games coming here later, and those reviews can be easily filtered out if someone doesn't want to see them. Yes, if there was no filter this would be a problem. but as is it's a total non-issue that only stems from some people's strange need to control what opinions other people may or may not choose to take into consideration.

Syphon72: I wouldn't try a game just because of fuss over Internet drama.

Disappointed we didn't get Aliens: Dark Descent or something else.

SargonAelther: I have 100% achievements in Gollum, so how could I resist trying this? The more people tell me to avoid something, the more tempted I am to try it.
I salute you then.

The issue is that external scrapers, like Google, do not differentiate between owner and non-owner reviews. Just Google "Dustborn Steam" and then "Dustborn GOG". So the impact of non-owners reviews is still massive.

GOG itself seems to favor general score over owners' score by presenting it as default one in the store and on the game page.

The reviews, if there are any, are less problematic than star ratings. The visibility of star ratings on the landing page, carousel, Bestseller, New Releases, and other sections is most influential. The stars and ratings are also prominently visible when hovering over an item in grid or directly in list view.

It is unlikely that visitors will click on an item to visit its store page and apply any filters when ratings are low. For them, it doesn't matter whether the reviews were written by verified owners, owners of a copy on a different store, or non-owners. They will move on to the next promising-looking item.

To reduce the impact of ratings, GOG could consider disabling the ratings feature or choosing not to count them. This can be done without requiring users to write reviews with a minimum length of 200-500 characters. By doing so, the score total will be less influenced by ratings alone, especially in cases where there is only a small number of reviews available.

Simplest fix - display the verified owner star rating rather than the overall one.
I mean, I appreciate the giveaway. As for Dustborn.... Well, it's Christmas, so I'll try to say something nice about it... Err... Anyway, moving on.

Perhaps next we'll get news that GoG have secured rights for a Galaxy exclusive second life for Concord.

I just hope that Red Thread games are paying you to list Dustborn - not the other way round.
