I'm attempting to play GK1 on my netbook, runs at a native 1024 x 600 resolution. Therefore, Gabriel Knight looks a bit too stretched out for my liking. I found posts on how to intentionally stretch the resolution, but none on how to intentionally put black boxes on the sides and play in the 640x480 resolution - or any other normal 4:3 aspect ratio.
First of all, I'm not really sure which .conf file to edit: should I be editing the one in the dosbox folder or the one in the original GK directory titled "dosboxGK"?
Here's what my dosboxGK.conf file looks like:
[sdl]
fullscreen=true
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=original
windowresolution=original
output=surface
autolock=true
[render]
frameskip=0
aspect=false
scaler=normal2x
Could somebody help me with this? Let me know exactly what you would do if you wanted the game to run in a native 4:3 resolution.
Thanks so much.
Well, changing scaler=normal2x to scaler=none should play the game using its original resolution (it's 640x480 if I'm not mistaken, yes). If you're interested in running the game (and all the other games you play with DosBox) at a 1024 x 600 resolution with the correct aspect ratio, you could try this:
fullresolution=1024x600
output=overlay
aspect=true
scaler=normal2x
Or:
fullresolution=1024x600
output=openglnb
aspect=true
scaler=none

Try:
[sdl]
fullresolution= 0x0
