When my oxygen room is attacked and goes red, repairing it has no effect and the level goes quickly to zero. What am I supposed to do?

It could be that you forgot to reallocate energy to the life support system; I've totally had situations arise where my life support got knocked out, and allocated the spare energy to a system that would help end the fight sooner, and forgot to juice up life support after repairing it.

Also, keep in mind that there are some encounters where your oxygen room is disabled by the opponent ship until you destroy it or flee away (you are warned in the intro text when it happens)

maybe you also got a hull breach, which further sucks out oxygen and has to be repaired first.
in that case also make sure to close all adjacent doors.
