I managed to create a party close to what I would consider ideal.

The party consists of a single halfling fighter who is dead.

To get this, the method is as follows:
1. Remove a dead character from the party (when loading or at a training hall)
2. Start a new game
3. Add the dead character (and nobody else) to the party)
4. Begin adventuring

You now have a party containing *just* your dead character. As long as you don't get into a fight, you can wander around as much as you like.

If you do get into a fight, however, it's an instant game over.

Edit: My ideal party would be the same party minus the halfling fighter. (Also, checked her class.)

This is mean-spirited and you should be mightily ashamed of yourself. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?

I know you didn't direct this comment at me, but I'm an atheist and I do not need a personal lord and savior.

You aren't the one acting like you do. (I'm Discordian, myself.)
I am both mystified by why anyone would want to do this and why anyone would be angry at them for doing so.

The reason I want to do this is because I can, and also because I am curious about how the game handles this situation.

Maybe I should put some traps or other events in my test scenario to see if anything else causes a game over.

Of note, I am able to enter a small town, go to the temple (which I made to not charge for its services), and have the temple cast Resurrection on the halfling, all without getting a game over.

I remember, as a child, doing a similar trick in Bard's Tale 3 (it involved D)ropping the only character (who was a monster) from the party and continuing with an empty party. The game actually got further than FRUA; I could get into a fight, attempt to run away, and even start the round, at which point an enemy would attack (who would the enemy attack?), kill its target, and only *then* would the game decide that my party would be wiped out.
If you like to experiment, FRUA is obviously ideal given the ability to make modules to order. Have you looked into any of the hacks yet?
