I bought this last year, during the Fall Sales.
I've finally gotten around to playing it after working through my huge backlog of other games.

I just realized the game crashes as soon as I launch it.
I hope this game will eventually get fixed, because I believe that selling a game that won't work is illegal in quite a bunch of countries.

I'm aware that there is a way to get the game to start, which is by enabling a service that is said to "compromise security".
Still, I think having a workaround isn't a good enough excuse.

I hope GoG (and Steam) can pressure the devs or the publisher into releasing a fix, and I hope they actually care enough to actually do it. I'm likely going to compromise my PC's security to play the game, but I'd rather not do it if I can help it.

Well, I just used the workaround, and have come to realize that I've wasted my money on this game.

1. Even with the workaround, I have to occasionally delete the Game.ini file in My Documents to get the game to start.
2. The game crashes when I click on "Display" under "Options".
3. The game runs fine at maximum settings in 4k for a while (60 - 70 FPS), then drops a bit (40 - 50 FPS), then becomes unplayable (6 FPS). At that point, I have to save the game, the restart it. Might need to delete the Game.ini file again if the game refuses to restart.
4. Many important actions were not bound to any key when I first started the game. I had to assign Crouch and Jump, for instance. I know games in which some very advanced and niche actions are not bound, like Lean, which are not necessary to complete the game, but who's ever heard of a game that has no default binding for stuff like Crouch or Jump, without which the game is unplayable? I suspect it's because I don't have a US keyboard.
5. Subtitles are unreadable on my 4k display. The HUD is small, but usable. The mission briefing window is so huge, I have to lean back to read it. I know there weren't any high-DPI screens back then, but this is quite half-assed, if I may say so.

Points 4 and 5 are just me nitpicking at the details, but I'm seriously disappointed with points 1 to 3.
I wish I hadn't bought this game. Too bad I can't ask for my money back now.

Point 3 is a problem with the game and HID devices, there is a script to use that disables the offending devices before starting up the game.

Methanhydrat posted a new solution for this in another thread. Here's the same information again:

Original page he made with the fix:

Here's the direct link to the fix:

Link to Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 from Microsoft (which he said is required):
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

I scanned it with virustotal. Feel free to scan it again before using.

Thanks again to Methanhydrat.

For the crashes, I suggest setting the executable to Windows XP compatibility mode.

For the hud issues, I just disable the hud with a mod.

If you play Extraction Point, you'll need to edi a configuration file to set the higher resolution.

hudfreegamer: Thanks again to Methanhydrat.
Don't thank me too early. Up to this point nobody besides me seems to have tested it yet ^^
