Hi All,
Probably being extra thick here - but I noted the GOG info page shows F.E.A.R 1 as being multi-player.
I appreciate this may mean LAN only, but when I launch F.E.A.R and then switch to multi-player I get the following pop up saying 'Application requires administrator privileges'.

I'm using the the GOG Galaxy client and tried it without too, same results.
tried to run the fearmp.exe as admin but still same message.
Win 8.1 OS.

Any one seen this and worked out why it occurs?

Any help appreciated.

Regards!
Oi! Have you tried to right-click on the game icon and "run as admin"?

Thanks for the suggestion - still have same issue.

I'm going to clean out install and re-try without the Galaxy client. ;)

It's probably because the FEARMP.EXE tries to install SecuROM files and registry entries, and that's what is kicking off the administrator privileges required messages. If you've tried running the multiplayer then you probably want to go check your system for inert SecuROM files and registry entries.

This was raised to GOG months ago and they were supposed to be working on a fix, but even now it still hasn't been updated. And anyway, I think the FEAR 1 multiplayer was turned off as a standalone FEAR multiplayer was released instead. Don't think GOG has that one, though.

The master server was shut down a couple of years ago.

Let me guess, Game Spy?

That's right.
I never played much with that service, but i can really understand the anger many people have for GS shutting down.

I never used GameSpy's services, but the devs did use GameSpy for matchmaking. And this happened on many games.
So did anyone figure out how to launch the multiplayer? We just purchased a few copies of this for multiplayer LAN, and all 7 copies will not launch the multiplayer. Gonna try monoliths forums as I cannot find any useful info in these forums.
I have the same issue. Kind of pisses me off that I paid money for a game that doesn't work properly.
F.E.A.R. multiplayer was removed from the main game and replaced by a FREE standalone title named F.E.A.R. Combat.

Don't try to use the multiplayer element in the GOG game as it will try to install SecuROM files on your machine. This is an issue that was raised with GOG long ago and still has never been fixed (they just need to replace FEARMP.exe with a dummy executable that does nothing so that the game doesn't try to install any SecuROM files. If you want the multiplayer, get the free standalone installer for F.E.A.R. Combat.
