A couple days ago the creator of the Rivarez Mod for F.E.A.R. released a big HD texture pack for the first game. It makes the game look a lot more detailed. Check it out.

Unpopular opinion, but this really doesn't make a huge impact on the game overall. Some smearing gets dealt with, and that's great but the sharpened outputs are a subjective "betterment" as far as detail is concerned.

Since we're not likely to see an official HD take on it any time soon, this is a sufficient go-between but it just makes me wish WB would do something... anything at all, with this IP. Except license it out for another multiplayer-centric turd. The world needs less of those.

I noticed the difference within a minute. I don't think I'll ever be able to play this game without this pack on top. There are many areas that definitely benefit from the more detailed textures.

Not that it doesn't make a difference, just that (to me) it doesn't make it better. I also did couch it as being a likely unpopular opinion.

Nothing against AI upscales and the like (although I do question with some exactly how far is too much for the sake of "clarity" but perhaps a different discussion for another time elsewhere) though.

the problem with the HD textures is they make the game and its expansions completely unstable and 99% of the time break the game and expansions.
