Is there a trick to killing the supermutants in this game or is it pure expenditure of ammo? I'm approaching the archives and am facing down 2-3 of the bastards at once and they each seem to take 2 full mags of rocket ammo to kill, I simply don't HAVE that much

I think you just have to empty more clips onto them to bring them down. Theres no special trick.

I managed to kill 2 of them with frag grenades, not sure if it was a vulnerability or they'd lost 9550 of their 10000 hit points before I attacked them.
But 9 bloody rockets in the chest before the fully healthy ones go down? They're tougher than a bloody tank!

Shoot 'em in the head. And assuming you're talking of the ones I'm thinking of. Yes, they're tough. Empty a combat shotgun at close range into their heads should take them down though. Or generally just some heavy firepower.

That's the best way, just strafe around them whilst sprinting and they get confused. Their stupidity is their downfall and inability to fit through certain openings. You can get into a good position on many occasions and just empty clip after clip on them.

I use the pistol because it has unbelievable stopping power and is highly accurate. Aim for the head!!!!

Save up ammo for the 50. cal sniper. Then give the big guys a few head shots.
