In FC2, after the long taxi ride, and the brief cut scene, there's a short training session where the game tells you to escape the hotel. Whether I escape out the window and collapse from malaria, or head out the front door and die from bullets, I wake up in a room some place, and none of the interaction controls work. Can't move, can't turn. Totally stuck. ESC leads back to the menu, but that's the only key that works.

I saw another thread in this forum where somebody else had this problem but thought it happened only when you go the wrong way out of the hotel and die. In my case, successfully escaping the hotel leads to the same issue.

I'm using the FC2 Multi Fix, but I get the same result with or without it.

Can't proceed in the game at this point. Anybody got a fix?

FYI running on 64-bit Win7 with Nvidia GTX 1060.

UPDATE: Found a similar problem described in the Steam forum. One fellow fixed it by turning on widescreen, so I tried that and it worked...once. Unfortunately, rather than keep playing, I restarted to verify the fix. And now the problem's back, and it doesn't matter whether widescreen is on or off.

Found a fix. For some reason, on my system I need to set the FPS limit lower than what's typically recommended. When I dropped the limit to 30, the game started working properly. (I'll be experimenting to see if I can go higher than 30.)

So if somebody else encounters this issue, try dropping the FPS limit below the recommended 60.

UPDATE: FWIW 30 is as high as I can go. Any higher and the problem occurs.

I just finished the game, and I didn't have this problem. Controls worked fine for me (Win 7 64 bits with a low-end nvidia card).
However, this game is crippled with bugs.

Random crashes occured frequently, especially in the second half of the game. I solved the problem lowering the textures details. It happened because my card was short on VRAM, but yours shouldn't have this problem. 2 GB of VRAM is enough to play the game with max details.

Phone calls often bug if playing with DX10 and 60 FPS. You answer the call and nobody talks. This is largely fixed by capping the game's FPS to 59 with the Multi Fix (not entirely, but almost).

Notice that if you alt-enter the game to switch to windowed mode, and back again to fullscreen, the game's resolution is not restored correctly. You have to switch to another one, and back again to the desired one. This might screw the Widescreen "fix".

Another point of advice : save often, AND in different slots. I once got in a situation where the guy supposed to give me my next mission completely ignored me. I had to revert to a previous save and do the missions in different orders to unlock my situation.

Sorry I can't be of much more help.
> Sorry...

No problem. As I noted, dropping my frame rate to 30 got me past that point. Oddly, from then on I set the rate back to 60 and had absolutely no problems of any kind. Finished the game with no crashes or glitches or any of the stuff you (and others) seem to suffer.

FWIW The folks over in the Steam forum described my problem (and its workaround) as one of the strangest they'd ever encountered with this game. :-)
