As the subject indicates, I'm trying to get the 64-bit patch to work properly under the 64-bit edition of the Windows 7 RC. While it seems to install OK, and launches, it doesn't much like me attempting to change the configuration, in that it doesn't save any changes. For example, if I change the screen resolution, it changes for that session, but "forgets" about the new resolution next time I start the game. While that wouldn't be such a big thing by itself, if I try to change all the detail settings up to "Very High", it informs me that I must restart the game, which I can't do, because it drops the changes. Interestingly, enabling vsync causes the game to restart itself, but it still doesn't save anything.
I haven't yet tried running the game with administrative privileges; I'll try that when I get home from work this evening. That shouldn't have much impact, though, because by default, when a non-privileged app tries to access a file (which I'm assuming is where it's fumbling) in a system directory, it should be transparently redirected to System drive:\Users\User\AppData\Virtual Store\Requested path.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,

The game should already come fully patched to the lastest version for 64 bit systems, you shouldn't need to install any extra patches.
As for the game not saving your settings running in admin would be the thing I would suggest as well. If thats not it I'm not sure why that would happen.

Unless something changed since I played the game, it's 32 bit version here. You do need to install extra patch for improved quality.
As fot the original question: the game has ini file that you will need to tweak anyway (to enable HDR for example), so I'd look for resolution change there.

I'm guessing that for compatibility purposes, as 32-bit systems cannot run 64-bit apps, GOG will only patch to latest 32-bit version. This is the same as they've done with UT2004, as it is the 32-bit latest patch but as we discussed on my question in the Unreal forum, there is a 64-bit patch available (I say patch, it's just some 64-bit files as extras).
32-bit apps will run in 64-bit systems, though, using the WOW6432 whatever-thingummy-its-called emulation in Windows (Windows On Windows I think it stands for).
Definitely run as administrator.
Also, try installing to a non-protected-OS folder, such as C:\Games, and see if that works any better for you. Doing this should bypass any DEP issues without having to disable DEP.

It does appear I'm wrong, I was under the impression it would install whichever version it detected itself much like how hellgate london did it.
Probably a dumb idea, but, why not wait until windows 7 is actually released before installing and setting up games on it? Some compatibility might change from RC to retail.

Well, as I said, I'm only guessing for reasons of compatibility. I know that UT2004 is the 32-bit version, though, as the 64-bit exe is only present in the downloadable patch. The FarCry 64-bit patch was an optional patch, so maybe they haven't included it for that reason? Do we know whether, in general, GOGs installers have one version of the game or do any auto-detect OS type? Which of the games on the site have 64-bit versions anyway?
Oh, and if I remember right, FarCry's 64-bit patch was aimed at AMD64 CPUs, though should still work fine on 64-bit Intel.

Maybe like in ut2k4's case, there's not much difference after installing the 64bit patch in Far Cry.

Nah it was the actual Hellgate London game itself that shipped with both 64 and 32 bit installers of the game and installed depending on what you were running. For some reason I thought Farcry did this as well but like you say the 64 bit compatibility came later in a seperate patch much like Unreal Tournament 2004.
Definitely run as administrator.

Tried to no avail.

I'll try this when I get home.

It's been reported elsewhere (no citation, sorry) that it works fine on Intel CPU's. The reason the 64-bit patch was so blatantly marketed as an "AMD64" thing was because AMD was partially behind the creation of the patch (they prompted Crytek to create it or something). Keep in mind that while it's called "AMD64", that's really just because it's a 64-bit instruction set authored by AMD; Intel's current 64-bit consumer processors all use the AMD64 instruction set like all of AMD's processors, both 32-bit and 64-bit, use Intel's x86 32-bit instruction set.
Maybe like in ut2k4's case, there's not much difference after installing the 64bit patch in Far Cry.

As I understand it, the 64-bit patch adds HDR rendering capabilities, better textures, and, more importantly, a longer line-of-sight before the engine stops rendering things.
Thanks guys!
