I figured that Id finish my current game but I don't remember the military base being so hard. Its not the fights so much as Its just confusing on what to do, science, lockpick, doctor and first aid skills do nothing honestly. Every computer on the 2nd and 3rd doesn't work, its a wonder these mutants get anything done with such shitty techs.

I killed everything on 1st lvl, and then went to 2nd but its not that 2nd lvl is too hard so much as there is just too many mutants to fight at once. I tried stealth boys, grenades and luring tactics but it doesn't work. Then theres the 3rd lvl where you can't lower the force fields.

Im gonna give it some trys after advice and then Im gonna abort the game. The game was fun up until this part, now its just too tedious. What might have made the game better was if there was some kind of strategy guide with a map included with all the enemies. The games been out for what 15 years. I found all the guides of gamefaqs, game banshee and all others to be crap.

The reason why is because some people are claiming there are 4 lvls and some are claiming 3. The game was really fun and I enjoyed it but if it takes another 3 hours to wade through this place I might have to stop as its giving a headache.

If anyone knows of a site which has the maps included with enemies so I know how to get to lieutenant. If there aren't any maps, then I doubt Ill get through it.

I dunno, the internet has been helping me, as well as the people on these forums. Without these resources I would have abandoned the game a LONG time ago. Some parts are just way too confusing.

Honestly, this is where I give in. The game was fun up to this point. But Im not wasting another hour trying to find out where to go in that area. The game had promise but Im just not one for solving puzzles. For what its worth, I pumped science, lockpick, repair and anything else I thought would help me-but the ray gates wont open. The wiki shows what the 1st lvl computer is, but the 2nd and 3rd lvl are clueless.

I'm curious; have you had similar experiences with other older games on GOG? In general older games are much tougher than newer ones.

IIRC, as far as the forcefields go, you use Repair or Science on them (being the round cylinder-like things next to the colored part) 3-4 times each, because often the first time will say nothing happened, but eventually the forcefield will go off for a few seconds giving you time to run through.

You should go to the 4th floor I believe, where if you go northeast and then south you will find a big mutant sentry and one of the purple-robed guards. They should either have a key, or it should be in a nearby locker. (The key will look like one of those bicycle lock guys, silver and made of metal, but not rigidity like a normal key; it's a cylinder with a few notches in it.)
There is always a tactic.
You stand in an elevator right?
Going down.
Mutant horde stands before you.
You use weapon.
Than with the remaining AP you use the elevator going up.
Heal yourself if needed. edit: and don't forget to reload.
Repeat till Mutants are dead.
Solved

Green force field use repair and after it goes down you can walk.
So kill all Mutants go the elevator in the SE down lvl 4.
Kill all Mutants.
NW are some funny clothed Children of the Cathedral.
Kill them.
Search for security pass.
Use computer with pass-
Show codes.
Try to hack into the system for information.
Use option for self destruction.
3 Minutes left so go back to the surface.

Yeah, I rarely ever finish an older game. I barely got through Geneforge 1 (with help of 4 admins on site). The only games I usually play are Avernum EFTP (remake), Avadon, Eschalon Book 1 and 2, Baldurs gate 1 and 2, Icewind dale 1 and 2 and Fallout 1 and 2 which would have been on that list.

The only oldschool and brutal rpg I play where I don't need any assistance is The Quest by Redshift. Its a modern game but brutally hard. I don't find it hard though.

I think old games are just not for me. They are always fun the first half or 3/4's of the way, but after that they become unbeatable.

Is there a refund policy on gog? Ive bought a few games I want to take back.

Sorry, but with DRM-free comes the fact that GOG doesn't know if you /actually/ deleted/uninstalled the game, so almost never any refunds occur.

I don't know how old you are, but if funds are a problem but you still want to find cheap modern games, keep in touch with the indie scene (even here on GOG). Most indie games can be bought very inexpensively and some even emulate the style and feel of older titles, but they are not as "brutal" as the games of yesteryear. I'll suggest Steam for indie titles too (because they often have really good deals) unless you really don't like it. Or you can use http://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/ to help keep track of game deals.

I personally am not against trying cheating in games that are really tough, which is often older titles. I did it with Far Cry, the last boss on Serious Sam 2nd Encounter, I looked at various walkthrough pieces for Fallout (not the full thing, just enough to let me carry on), and I'll probably do it with the next GOG game I buy. Heck, if Beyond Good and Evil had cheats, I would have used those on the final boss; I still haven't beaten that douche.
I was especially angry that I own Avernum 4-6 and Geneforge 2-5 and I cant play the games as I know I prally wont be able to complete them. It sucks because they are a lot of fun :(
I played Fallout when it first came, back when there were no guides to follow. It was frustrating at times but the game still stands as one of my all time favorites. It took me 3-4 months to finally beat the game. I think it was my 4th or 5th playthrough when I discovered that I could use repair on the force fields. I just always used dynamite on them up until that point.

This makes it hard to give really specific details on how to get through certain parts of the game. There are multiple solutions to each quest and what works for some characters won't work for others. I remember funneling super mutants down hallways where I was at one end and they at the other. I would hide behind a wall and take one step out, fire and go back to my hiding spot. It would take them a few turns to even get close and then I would run to another hiding spot. This worked better if you shot them in the legs.

For what it's worth I have never been able to finish Baldur's Gate.

BG1-Solo Fighter/thief One time
BGEE- 2 man party thief and fighting class, 2 times

BG 2-2 times with party, 3 times without
For The Military Base You Should Already Have The Following:
Hardened Power Armor
Turbo Plasma Rifle

With These The Super Mutants Really Become A Joke. If You Hack The Computer Mainframe On The Northeast Side Of The First Level In The Base Then You Can Use Your Radio That You Picked Up From A Guard Outside The Base And Hack Into The Computer With It (Rolling Your Repair Skill On Each Attempt) So That You Can Use The Radio To Bypass Each Green Force Field You Come Across (Be Sure To Equip It Into One Of Your Item Slots And Simply Click On It When Standing Near A Barrier). Also There Is Another Computer You Can Optionally Hack To Use Repair And Science On (I Forget Which Order) in Order To Make The Robots Turn Hostile Against The Mutants And They Won'T Attack You Either. The Military Base had Me Stumped Until I Referred To A Guide Then It Was Easy And So Was The Rest Of The Game. Just Don't Give Up, Trooper!
