I've just started playing Fallout for the first time, and just got my first NPC to join me (Ian). I'd like to lighten my load and transfer some items to him, but for the life of me I can't figure out how. I've looked all through the manual and online, and I'm not seeing it.

Help, please? :)

Also a couple of points to consider; NPCs do not have a weight limit so can effectively carry as much as you want them to, and if you want to take an item back from them you will have to do it via stealing (they don't take offense to this) and not the barter screen.

I'm not sure if it also works in FO1 or only the second installment, but can't you also plant items on others using the Steal window? If you can, it's an even faster method than bartering.
