For several months, upon getting the Fallout expansion pack from Steam and then a physical copy of the games, I could not play them due to the graphical glitches becoming so terrible that staying immersed in a world where every shadow was a multi-colored rainbow that actually hid my enemies while in plain sight a few times was troublesome at best.

Then, low and behold, I got both Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 from Good Old Games and no problems. At all. The game ran smooth, the graphics were nice and crisp, just like I'd been able to purchase the original the first time it came out.

I hope, when, maybe if, this site offers me Fallout 3 without DRM, that issues like loading, nano-pauses during gameplay giving me the feeling of picture stutter, and the loading speed of outdoor graphics will all be improved or just non-existent.

Other issues probably exist for others folks using this game, some of which never happen for me, but perhaps it's time to give the newer versions of post-nuclear wasteland living a tune-up and re-release.

Because nothing says loving like kicking DRM into the oven. ^_^
It would be amazing to get Bethesda here, as they have a bunch of their own classic games, plus I believe they own id (or have the same parent company or something). It seems unlikely though, sadly. Also, the issues with Fallout 3 are probably more due to the crappiness of the GameBryo Engine than any compatibility issues. In the meantime, go play New Vegas if you haven't. :)
Just like he said. That's the engine's fault. DRM has nothing to do with it. However for gamebryo games there are some custom "antistutter" exes that help. Go to nexus and search for x stutter remover where x is your game (oblivion, f3, nv).

You do realize that Fallout 3 on Steam uses no DRM, right? You don't even need to use Steam to run it. In Fallout 3/NV case all Steam is doing is acting as a downloader/updater for you.
The problem with Fallout 3 is just that it's shoddily made, and works especially terrible on Windows 7.

And, since a lot of people seem to get this wrong, it's not Gamebryo. Gamevryo is simply the )heavily modified by Bethesda) graphics engine. All the buggy stuff is the result of 100% original Bethsoft code that they refuse to scrap.
