I installed Fallout 2 and it's been running without a hitch (I've gotten as far as rescuing Vic) but there's been absolutely no music in the game. I checked the Audio folder and the music folder is completely empty; I never installed any mods or mucked around with the files so I don't know why it's empty, but it is. I tried just downloading the soundtrack off of GoG and copying it into the audio folder but that didn't work as the filenames are different. If somebody could maybe give me the proper filenames to get the audio to work I'd appreciate it!

There IS music in the game and the installer from GOG is the problem.
go to your install directory.
go to *installdirectory*/data/sound/music
copy all files (ctrl+c)
go to *installdirectory*/sound/music
and past all the filer (ctrl+v)
OR
fallout2.cfg is pointing the game to the wrong music folder. data/sound/music is correct but it's listed as
music_path1=sound/music
music_path2=sound/music
You can either change it or copy the files.

Thanks a bunch, works like a charm! Hopefully the GoG folks are working on fixing this ;P
It's a problem with the original installer.
I really want to thank Weclock for solving the problem!
I had the same identical "music prob".
Thanks a lot to you!

Worked for me too!

Thank you Weclock! Mark Morgan's compositions for F1 & 2 are really good, and it's so nice to have them again in Fallout New Vegas.

Could you please expand on your answer. i have the same problem. I have the music files but they are in a different location. I have data/sounds/speech and the music is in its own folder; sounds/music. I copied the music folder to the data/sound folder and no luck. Where is the installdirectory? I am not very computer savvy! Please help! Playing this game without music is like eating food without salt!

The install directory is different for most users, it appears. What operating system are you using?
Holy.... :O

I've had the game for years (non-gog FO1&2 DVD version) and never realized something's a missing!
I have the same problem with no music but I don't have a fallout 2.cfg file to modify. I've looked everywhere, I have even uninstalled and re-installed the game to see if it was there before patching to no avail. Any ideas? Im on a win7 64-bit system.
There is still a problem with music in GOG version of the game... It's solved by editing the CFG file. Hopefully, it'll be fixed...if it can be.

It might get fixed if GOG support are made aware of the problem and the steps to fix it. Has anyone contacted GOG support about it?

I'll do it man!

Cool, let us know how you get on. I know that when I contacted GOG support about the censored 3DFX version of MDK (and pointed them at a cracked uncensored 3DFX MDK exe) they looked into it and shortly after (about a week I think it was) they released a new version which was uncensored. :)
Wow! I had been playing for over 10 hours before I realized the music was absent!
