It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

They crash on startup with the windows not responding prompt
I'm on windows 8.1 and have tried every fan fix on the PC gaming wiki, I also have the Steam versions which share the same issue.
Any ideas on what could cause this?

Make sure all older components of DirectX 9 are present on your system by installing this:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

For Fallout 1, try a fresh installation and only apply the FIXT mod.

For Fallout 2, try also a fresh installation and only apply Killap's Unofficial Patch OR Killap's Restoration Project (which contains additional in-game content)
http://www.killap.net/fallout2/web/Downloads.html

- Don't install the games into "\Program Files" folder, but into a custom one (like C:\GOG.com\).
- Try running the game with administrator rights (right-click the game's shortcut => Run as..) and in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP or Windows 7 (right-click the game's shortcut => Properties => Compatibility tab)
- Try starting the game directly with the executables (Fallout1.exe and Fallout2.exe) in the games' folders instead of using the desktop shortcuts. Also try running these as admin and in compatibility modes.
- It was reported that Firewalls (e.g. Commodo) and the 'ATI Tray Tool' conflict with the game. Try disabling these programs.

Thanks for the reply
Even though I attempted most of those before
I retried and the same issue persist
What bugs me most is after all these tries I haven't seemed to be able to make the application start at all

Fixed
The issue was Rivatuner in MSI Afterburner, I feel stupid but I'm just glad to play Fallout again.
