I havent really had a tough time until now. I am a unarmed/sneak melee fighter and just killed set in the necropolis with ease. I am alone and am having a difficult time fighting harry the super mutant for some reason. I have been getting brutal criticals on him, smashing his face in 8 times-however, he seems to have infinte health. Is there any way to defeat him. I am using leather armor and brass knuckles. I couldnt get the spiked ones cause im in the middle of a quest. No spoilers on where the water is please. This game is getting a lot better.

You're gonna need better gear before taking on super mutans. Not saying it's impossible, but you would have to be a fairly high level to take on super mutant with leather armor and brass knuckles.

Also, if you're interested, I could give you a hint on how to extend you're time limit with the water situation. It's not a cheat/hack and wont reveal the actual solution.

I can't remember... what does he use as a weapon? If it's a two-handed weapon, you could try crippling one of his arms which will prevent him from using it. Otherwise, I would aim for his eyes for the best criticals.

But it's been a long time since I played... anyone else have more specific advice?

If we take the wiki's word for it, it's a Laser Rifle, very definitely a two-handed weapon.
Not a bad one, at that.

My advice? You get more XP if you don't kill 'em, so just try to sneak around, or confuse him with conversation options. Still, if for various reasons these are not options for you, you might consider leveling a bit more and then trying again with a higher level of skill so as to make those eye-shots more likely to strike.

I just got the water partial remedy before i went to the necropolis and i have 180 days. Something really weird happened one time i tried. I got taken to an testing facility with an even bigger super mutant who sounded like the voice actor from hey arnold. He was definitely a nutcase and he forced me to tell him where my vault is. I had no choice and the nut raided my vault, killed everyone while i got scorched in acid. Ive never really had something like that happen in a video game. Kinda cool really. Just need to level more and find the spiked knuckles. I might just say forget the mob quests and kill kane to get them.

Yeah I think that's what happens if you surrender to Harry. It's better to kill him or sneak past him though. If you're having trouble killing him, can you sneak past? Or talk your way past him? That may be a better idea (as MackieStingray suggested).

Mutants are definitely freaks. I just got done critically hitting him in the groin 9 times and he only fell down twice. Are mutants tougher done there or what? Ill probably shouldnt even ask.

Indeed they are... I once tried shooting one in the groin and he said (via a text message above his head) "I do not share that weakness with you, human". You're better off aiming for the eyes.

As you continue to play, this will all be even funnier, good sir, as you will eventually stumble upon materials explaining in detail the nature of the Super Mutants, and not coincidentally providing some context for that acid bath you took in the non-canonical ending!

Just went through this part, this time with a sweet woman.
Basically just said "pretty please" and Harry let me pass, didn't even meet Set either.

Bit of a shame as I've got me some wicked gunnery skills and the .223 pistol!

As another bit of advice, there's a plasma pistol to be found at the underground tunnels (from some dead body).
If you're in real trouble, just save and reload until you open the fight with a critical hit in the eyes...

I got lucky and he just stood there while I repeatedly shot him in the face. I don't know why it glitched, but I was afraid to move and cause him to realize what was happening.
