Just simply one of the greatest games of all time. I remember it fondly even today. Yes, it's basically Mad Max, with hints of Monty Python, Dr Who and other crazy references, soaked in ultra gore and living under a mushroom cloud charm.
Has one of the best opening sequences there has ever been with perfect music. I do love this game, I have played it to death. Fallout 2 is also a good game, but I played it less so (never finished it). Fallout 3 I would not touch with the flappy end of a mutant.
Fallout. Play it if you love rpgs and tactical combat. Of course, you probably already have.
