Its 0:20 AM and I had a long day. I just downloaded Everspace 2. Here are my very first impressions.

First impressions are very important, in my opinion. So im just talking about the first 5 Minutes. But for the most time that is enough.
I bought Everspace 1 but I admit I did not play it that much. Quite honestly it was too hard. The grind reward ratio was not quite where I wanted it to be. But I was very glad to see Everspace 2 as not rogue-lite and openworld storyfocused.

Where to begin, obviously this is early access but I think a first comment is still appropriate. First off the main menu. It is where everything starts and off the start it looks so much better than Everspace 1. It simply looks more polished less, I dont know, just plain better nicer looking. Good job!. First stop settings. The amount of graphic settings has improved and hey there is DLSS so that is also really good. However fariness wise I won't be activating DLSS (for the time beeing).

Quick remark here about performance. Im playing at 1440p and on a Ryzen 5600x and an RTX 3070 plus the game is installed on an SSD.

Jumping into the game. Loading times seem quick so nothing too long. Honestly I had some worries, seeing the game takes 64 GB but no complains here (yet). Jumping in a Tutorial and some sort of Mission yay. Seems good so far. Game looks gorgeous and the controls seem responsive. Overall I am not an expert on realistic flight controls by far but the controls feel much quicker and much more responsive than Everspace 1. In my opinion this is much nicer for a game.
Okay going into some Mine. I have an asshole supervisor. Classic I guess. Flying in there I have to blast away some space plants or animals I dont really know. Yet they don't seem to blast back so they dont pose much of a challenge. Hit feedback is good, it could be a bit better, but I honestly wouldnt seem how. I just misses something. Going forward. I loot some crafts and have some fun Dialogue with my partner. Pretty good.
Now in these narrow caves I take a closer look at graphics and performance. I am running highest settings (without DLLS though) and I am getting 60-80 FPS. Not bad but also not amazing.
Now I have the first major critique in the graphics department. The smoke. Idk tthe game looks really pretty but that smoke does quite honestly not look that good. The sparks looked okay but the smoke. Hmja.
Lighting is another Issue but that isn't bad. If you look closely at some pipes the lighting will put you right in the uncanny Valley. But thats nitpicking. Im not sure if some Raytracing is planned but I would understand if there is not. Not a lot of people run cards, which support Raytracing and I imagine it is quite a lot of effort to implement it. Compare that to the significant performance drain, I completely understand that is probably not a priority.

So yeah first impressions are always very important in my opinion and even though Everspace 2 is still in early access it did pretty well. The overall presentation seems to have greatly improved. I am looking forward to playing more!
