In case anyone encounters this issue where the game will get to the main menu and just as you see the option for new game it will loop back to the opening logos I found it to be a distro issue. So I had this issue happen on Solus for both my GOG and Steam copy but on Linux Mint it gave me no such issue for Steam or GOG.
