Need some assist for a good starting party please, just classes and races, I can work out the details and whatnot later when I've understood the mechanics more.

I have following ones (all humans, they are well rounded, and racials are not so good at higher levels):
Front line: Lord, Valkyrie, Thief.
Back line: Mage, Alchemist, Bishop.

4 classes have very important special purpose:
You will need Bishop to get some side quests (confession in temple at certain levels).
You will need Alchemist to pass through some areas without super pain because he can craft interesting things.
Valkyrie is best class to fight ghost type of enemies efficiently.
Thief is the most efficient class to open chests.

Ex-Skils:
Lord - Bracing.
Valkyrie - Mysterious Bag.
Thief - Find Treasure.
Mage - Spirit Contract.
Alchemist - Divination.
Bishop - Song of Healing.

This makes it for very efficient party from very start.
Hm, I have a fighter and samurai instead of Lord and Valkyrie. Should I repack characters or will I be alright?

Edit: Thanks a lot for the advice by the way, it's a tough game to wrap my head around.

Samurai is alright choice, but fighter is a rather weak class. But as long as you have Thief and access to Cleric and Mage spells, you should be alright.

Forgot to say about big benefits from having Lord. When he reaches specific level (I think it was 26), he will give resistance to status effects to whole party (this resistance will increase with level ups). And enemies enjoy to spam debuffs on your party and they will start to do so from 2nd floor of starting dungeon.

If you won't feel satisfied with your team, you can always replace your unwanted party members and make new ones. You can use gold during character creation to convert it into EXP at a rate of 1:1. Game allows you to have up to 108 characters.

Looks like I'll be replacing my Fighter with a Lord then, Valkyrie is optional I suppose. Stat effect resistance seems vital to survival. I just got Samurai because I read that at higher levels he tanks like a boss.
