I am having two problems with EWJ1 (EWJ2 works fine.)
The first problem is a graphical, flashing error that runs up the left hand side of the image. (this happens 90% of the time when running EWJ1... and only on the actual levels.)
Basically it is a 1cm edge on the left that garbles the graphics as you move.
Changing the graphic mode setting, resolution or running in fullscreen or in a window makes no difference.
(I have included a screenshot of the problem... but it is far easier to see when the game is running.)
The second problem... around 50% of the time when starting EWJ1 the gamepad controls (tested on two different gamepads with the same problems) basically go nuts. EWJ1 has to be restarted several times before gamepad support works correctly.
Thanks for any help.

You're not the only one. I get the same graphics problem, although not that big of a deal, I kind of forget about it while playing.
I'm getting this too, along with awful distorted looping sound effects.
I'll check I'm i a bit
Well, it's nice to know it's not just me.
I noticed the graphical problem as well, but I didn't think too much of it. If you remember back in the NES Mega Man days, that sort of distortion was common.
Same graphical problem here. Also happens when running the game under the Linux version of Dosbox.
Doesn't seem to happen in EWJ2, oddly enough.

Graphical problem as well, though it seems to have decreased in severity once I switched to my panels native resolution, turned on aspect correction, and switched to the advmame2x scaler. I am also having the joystick problems.

You may have already tried this, but setting timed=false in the Dosbox config file (GOG calls it EWG.conf or something, I think), can fix wonky joypad/stick problems.
Okay, nevermind what I said earlier. After a little playing around with the "fullscreenresolution"setting and "output" setting the graphical distortion disappeared. Try playing around with the various settings in EWJ1.CONF.

Really?
Can you please tell me what you changed those settings to??
All right, it is being really playful about when it does and doesn't want to work with me. I think it has something to do with the mouse cursor. Try closing the exiting fullscreen with alt+enter and then reopening it. I'll try to look into this a little more later. What operating system are you using?
The alt+enter thing makes no difference.
But, yeah, I think it might have something to do with the mouse cursor.
It's just weird. Get this... If I open EWJ1 and I even slightly touch the mouse, I think that causes the gamepad controls to go screwy... but... when the controls are all messed up and I try to play EWJ1 anyway, the graphic problems disappear and it looks fine (apart from the fact that it's unplayable because of the messed up controls.)
But... if the gamepad controls don't go screwy (or I just use the keyboard) (whether any gamepad is plugged into the computer makes no difference) then I can control it fine, but the graphical problems come back.
so... I tried for a couple of hours with different configurations/settings.
At one point I got rid of the graphics problems (with no gamepad) ... once I plugged the gamepad back in... they came back. I even turned off gamepad support and used another program to set up gamepad controls mapped to the keyboard. That also caused the graphics problems even though it is a totally separate program (this is not a problem with my gamepad btw... I've tested another one and it does the same thing.)
Gamepad controls still only work about 50% of the time also.
The only conclusion I can come to is DosBox is just not capable of getting round these errors.
I hope the people at GOG will at least try to fix these problems. I've done all I can.
