It generally isn't a good idea unless you need to do so for plot reasons or you plan to go for the "There can be only one!" ending. There are a few points where you may be prompted (one way or another) to attack another master, and those are generally plot-related, but they can also be red herrings, so think carefully before you follow another master's suggestion to attack a rival.
