GOG's game page of Dungeons 2 does not contain any hint that the Linux version of the game does not support 32-bit systems. The "System requirements" with a dependency on libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 even suggest that the game is a 32-bit version.

But on a 32-bit system the Linux starter tries to start "game/Dungeons2.x86", which does not exist. I've used the installer "gog_dungeons_2_2.0.0.1.sh" and the installation only contains "game/Dungeons2.x86_64", which is a 64-bit binary.

Is the 32-bit binary missing in the installer or is the game card wrong?

eiii: But on a 32-bit system ...
since when you updated it from 16bit system? :) Seriously, what prevents you from using 64bit OS? this game is a hog even on modern hardware, you won't be using potato to run it anyway. upgrade and use 64bit executable if your PC supports 64bit software, if not, you won't be playing this game anyway

Never! Linux never has been a 16-bit system. :P

My gaming system is old and there are too many 32-bit games installed on it. I won't upgrade that system to 64-bit. My next gaming PC will get a 64-bit installation.

But that's not the point. Either the game card of Dungeons 2 is wrong as it lists a 32-bit library as a dependency, or the Linux installer is incomplete as it does not contain a 32-bit game binary.

with just one line command you can enable 32bit libraries on 64bit OS and it just will work. I'm not saying to ditch old 32bit games, I just don't understand why you willingly restrict yourself from 64bit part when you can get both on same system.

upd. I just checked steam page for this game, it lists OS: x64-Versions of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS & Ubuntu 14.10 as minimum requirement. looks like that requirement for 32bit libsdl is out of the line (or they had 32bit executable and then removed it)

I know that I rather easily can run 32-bit binaries on a 64-bit system. But it's not a 64-bit system, it still is a 32-bit system. So I would have to reinstall the whole system, which is not worth it.

I'm afraid exactly that is the case. To close this thread I'll mark it as the answer.
