I have no idea how to go about doing that, can you elaborate?

I bought this game so that I could AVOID all this shit, but alas, it seems too much to ask for.

Unless you installed it somewhere else, it should be here:

C:\GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper Gold

Then look for dosboxDK.conf. Open it with notepad and scroll down or use ctrl+f to find: cycles=

Change whatever the default is to: cycles=max

Save your changes and you should be good to go.

Why the fuck isnt this a sticky? sorry im hella mad and its nothing personal, spend so many hours in trying different engines and doing KeeperFX...
When I set cycles to max, it just flies by (animations in multiples of normal speed) and is laggy in a different way due to excessive CPU speed. No other ideas to make the play run at 100% with smooth scrolling and animations?

Setting the cycles to max is terrible advice for almost any game in DOSBox.

I run it at 50000 cycles, no problems, no lagging.

Thanks for the hint. Didn't work for me though. With 50.000 cycles (instead of the 80.000 default) it's even more laggy.

Any other settings advice? What about core, frameskip, scaler, cputype? Did you change anything in the "Graphic Mode Setup"?

Yes, sorry about that.

I don't use GOG's install at all, I simply take the needed files into my virtual hard disk for a single DOSBox install, and I take the time to fine tune every game. Then again, GOG defaults did not run badly for me.

Try cputype=pentium_slow, core=dynamic, and (although it should not make any difference) output=openglnb.

Most people would prefer KeeperFX. Issues with that can be handled on the Keeperklan Discord: https://discord.gg/zKTjfDh
If you prefer the GOG version, you could either use DxWnd instead (allowing you to even play the keeper95.exe version that GOG does not provide even though they claim it's gold), or pressing Ctrl+F11 and Ctrl+F12 multiple times to adjust the speed.

Thank you - I've been trawling the web for a solution to this, as the cpu_cycles=max was just making things much worse for me. I used these settings, and set the cpu_cycles to 100000 (but your mileage may vary) and the game is more or less running as intended.

The interface is a little quick when scrolling, but no issues with the gameplay itself.
