It took me a few tries to get this working, but here are the options that got me the bestresults on my netbook. It's a great little system for older games, it plays Total Annihilation (thanks GoG !) just great, as well as Warcraft 2and Starcraft.

DK 1 from here was pretty bad when I first installed it, but tweaking the settings has fixed it up. Here are the changes I made:

dosboxDK.conf:

[cpu] section:
cycles=max

[mixer] section:
blocksize=1024
prebuffer=100

In addition, run the "Launch Graphic Mode Setup" shortcut in the Keeper folder. Set the graphic mode to Direct3D

Doing so made the game play just fine, I suspect the software rasterizer that's used by default was a bit too much for the low powered Intel Atom in the netbook.

That said, a question regarding screen resolution. The netbook has a 1024 * 600 screen, so it ought to support 800*600 with letterboxing. Any ideas on how I might do this, it appears to be letterboxing a 640 * 480 display in the center of the screen by default.
I'm trying to figure this out myself. The thing I've noticed is that it gives you the option of running in Direct3D, but should running the game in dosbox defeat the point?
