Hello, everybody. After going back and for with GOG tech support with no results, I'd figure that I would give asking the community a try. As the title says, every time I start DKII DX I would get two black bars on each side of the screen. Oddly enough, the cursor seems to move "into" the right bar, but treats the left bar as a solid border.

I've tried numerous resolution changes, my scaling is already set to full-screen (I'm using NVIDIA if that helps any), and disabling the DSR on my video card. So far nothing has worked. I've had some success by going to the compatibility tab of the exe and selecting "Run in 640x480 resolution", but as one can imagine, this makes alt-tabbing an absolute nightmare.

Has anybody else had this particular issue? Any success in fixing it?

(I'm trying to upload an image of the problem I took using printscreen, but evidently 662 kb is too large of an attachment.)

Hmm, since you're using an Nvidia card, you probably have GeForce Experience installed. Sometimes this tool messes with games, due to its auto-optimization feature. Try deactivating or better uninstalling it and check if this makes a difference. However, it's only a shot in the dark.

Thank you so much for the reply (and subsequently I apologize for my late reply; college work is piling up), but still no dice. I've contacted both GOG support and GeForce support with the former saying I would unfortunately just have to deal with ticking the 640x480 tab and the latter basically telling me to reinstall my drivers which did absolutely nothing.

I've been playing around with the resolution a bit and found that DKII-DX.exe will only properly have full screen resolution if I tick the previously mentioned 640x480 option or manually change my own resolution (via right clicking on the desktop) to 1024x768 (which needless to say doesn't look very pretty). Given how this is the only GOG game I'm experiencing this issue with, I'm starting to think it's the software itself and it's compatibility with Nvidia cards. I know the GOG team put an absolutely grueling amount of work into making the game work with modern systems after the less-than-stellar launch (and I'm still very grateful to this day for that, this is why I choose GOG over any other service), but maybe another minor patch may be needed for Nvidia users experiencing a similar problem.

You're welcome. I'm sorry nothing has really helped so far. Even though Nvidia recommended to reinstall the newest drivers, there's a history of new Nvidia drivers causing trouble with some old games. You could also try installing one of the legacy drivers instead, to check if they're working better. As long as you're not playing newer stuff at the moment, you won't even feel any performance issues. For example the Geforce 337.88 driver is known to work.

Create the file %APPDATA%\GOG\DungeonKeeper2\Config.ini

Open it in note pad and paste in:
[video]
ScaleMode=0

%APPDATA% is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming by default on win 7, but will vary on other windows versions. Type %APPDATA% on its own into the run dialog to find out where yours is.

You're an amazing individual, you know that? Everything is working now. I noticed the config.ini already existed and contained a zbuffer setting. Dungeon Keeper 2 doesn't seem to like that. So I more or less wiped the .ini clean and put in just what you told me to and now the game is running fine in full screen.

Thank you so much, man. You have no idea how much it means to finally get this game to work in full.
have the same problem and dont understand what i realy have to do

:Edit
found it and it works .thanks
