I am new to the website (hi :D) and I just downloaded Dragonsphere. After downloading it I clicked on the shortcut and tried to start it. It's just a black screen and the beginning music.

Maybe you should try fiddle with Graphic mode setup located at start menu. Try change the graphic mode first. Dosbox base game can be quite troublesome with different system.

the game wont start for me, im getting the command prompt and i dont know how to get past it

Do you start in full screen or in window mode?
On my system (Win 7-64 Home), the graphics are only shown correclty when using the window mode - regardless of any other options like resolution, renderer, buffering, whatever.

You can always switch between full screen and window mode by pressing Atl+Enter.
