The second time you talk to the old man in Slathan ni Patan, if you ask him about the Fair, he mentions that a prophecy says that "a man named Blare will make an unholy alliance with evil to bring destruction upon his own kind."

Since this doesn't become part of the game's events, I wonder--is this a reference to something or is it just a bit of background flavor?
I just completed the game about 4 hours ago......I thought that Blare reference was really funny as it kind of reminded me of UK's Ex-Prime Minister - Tony Blair. But you are right , they don't seem to mention Blare again or if they did - I missed it.
I believe it's a reference to Tony Blair. He became leader of the UK Labour Party in 94.

I wondered too, maybe it was a hook for a planned sequel (that never happened) or a reference to some other game by the company...although I also thought of Tony Blair upon hearing the name as well :p
