I was at the shadow fortress and was fighting some big ass ogre thing. The ogre did some club swing and sent one of my pawns flying off the top of fortress. I was planning on ressing her after the fight as she was in downed state on the first floor outside the castle. What was weird is that she disappeared from my party completely and the area.

Does this randomly happen? Kinda sucks, she had items I had her holding for me.
If a pawn dies all the items they carry should be sent back to your home stash which you have access to at the inns. So you don't really lose anything there. A downed pawn who isn't resurrected in time disappears from the party but you should be able to re-hire them if you care enough to seek them out, though I never had that happen to me. Should your main pawn die and not be resurrected you can get them back at any rift stone.
As Swampland said, the items a pawn holds are returned to storage upon death. The only exception is if you equip an item on a support pawn (usually only done to gift weapons and armor to someone).

One of the more interesting applications is to load down a pawn until it can barely walk, then toss it off a cliff - the stuff gets transferred to your storage, and the rest can contine with a much lighter load.

Besides falling off cliffs or drowning, there are a few other instakills that will remove the pawn from your party, like Death's scythe attack. In those cases, you cannot resurrect the pawn, but will need to re-hire it. Your own pawn will pop out of the next riftstone you encounter, though.

Oh good, I got worried lol

Thanks for advice, I'm still learning the game but realyl enjoying it a ton.
Leave a Pawn too long and he`ll vanish back to the Rift. If it`s your main Pawn, don`t worry, he`ll pop back down to you as soon as you touch the Rift stone. Other Pawns you will have to reemploy. I lost my main pawn once and I was relieved to see her dramatically return when I hit the Rift stone.

Still losing a pawn means you`re stuck for a while, especially if you don`t have a special stone to teleport back.

Also it`s worth making a personal Pawn you`ll really like because this Pawn developes a sort of relationship to you that you`ll eventually see...
