I'm just playing through the first game and realized it'll be disappointing if your character doesn't face any challenges or foes where he can't die! That's what always made so many old adventures so much fun, the thrill of picking the right choices or making fast decisions! And just purely unexpected fun stuff. KQ and QFG were exceptionally great in this regard! Or some old games like Hugo's House of Horrors and so on, although it's annoying when it happens completely randomly - but then again, that's why it's important to save, haha! :)

Well, there is one moment when you can die if you don't act quickly in the first game, but I am not going to spoil the game for you. To be honest, there isn't much of these moments throughout he series. I believe the most of these "deathly" situaitons is in the second game.
Thanks for your answer! :)
